Subject:Peak files building sslloowwllyy....

Subject says it all really. I'm scoring a video project and the audio for the video is a 45 minute file. ACID builds the peaks (takes a while) after which, to my understanding, it can read peak info from the .sfk file stored in the audio file's directory. Why then, does it build the peaks again for the same files every time I open the project? It really slows me down, especially when I tend to be constantly switching between Acid, Logic Audio and Vegas. Am I missing something here? Any tips appreciated - thanks!

there is an option in Acid that you can check/uncheck to deletes the SFK file upon closing of the program.

maybe thats whats happening?

Really? OK thanks, I'll look for that... I haven't come across it before, but that would explain the problem I'm having. Cheers.

OK - that doesn't really help... I can't find any such option in ACID, nor any reference to it in the help files.

How long should it take for ACID to load an .sfk file for the graphical overview of a long (45 minute) wave file?

My machine isn't the best - P3 700, 512MB RAM, 7200rpm 20GB drive, Win 2000 Pro.

If the SFK file exists, it shouldn't take long for the track to be added to the project, even with that system.

Have you tried experimenting with other projects?

It seems to happen on all projects that contain large sound files (wavs). The sfk files are there, but I still end up waiting at least 45 seconds for a 45 minute wav file to "build peaks" which really interrupts my work flow. Oh well. I'm building a new computer tomorrow which I hope will alleviate the problem...
