i'm trying to solve a hiccuping/stuttering problem with acid 4.0 playback,i've been told to upgrade my ram (i've done that, 128megs to 608 megs) and im still having problems.i've been told that Another reason for audio gapping might be playing too many Disk-Based Tracks at once. ACID is not optimized to play more than one or two
stretched Disk-Based Tracks at a time. Unstretched Disk-Based Tracks will perform better but will still top out at four or five, depending on your system configuration. what are disk based tracks? thank you

acis is not stable at playing more than one or 2 disk based tracks at once, AT THE SAME TIME!!!! meaning, instead of having loops layered over each other, you have disk based tracks layered over each other. that is wehre it becomes unstable. (i have made club mix cd's in acid...all disk based tracks, 18 or so, and NEVER a hiccup) BECAUSE, they are not playing at once! a disk based track is...in essence...just that. as oppose to a loop which is loaded and played form your memory, a disk based track is loaded and played form your hard drive. it requires more "balls" from a pc and/or program to play many of these at once. you can change a disk based to a loop and vice versa in the properties view of any track.

I'm using acid pro 4.0 and i dont see anything that will allow me to change from disk based to loop anywhere....i've gone to track properties but all i see is "general" and "stretched" in general is see a drop down but it only as loop/one shot/beatmaped Sorry, but am i looking in the wrong place??

Disk-based tracks playback straight from your hard drive, while Loops always playback from RAM.

One-shots longer than three seconds playback from your hard drive. (Those three seconds or shorter playback from RAM.) Beatmapped tracks always playback from your hard drive no matter the duration.

The General tab is where you'd change the track type from one type to another. Be careful; changing a long, disk-based track to a Loop can take up a chunk of RAM. A typical three minute track can take up around ~50 MB or more, for example.

What you get away with for disk-based track playback is all dependent on the performance of your system. Many can get away with 4 or 5, while others top out with less. For this reason, ACID is not meant to be a multitracker in the truest sense; that title belongs to Vegas alone.

on that drop down arrow...change it to "beatmapped" that means it is now disk based. but like MD said, BE CAREFUL. if the track is too long, it will eat up yor memory.
