Subject:Need help mixing vocals. Posted by: madmax Date:10/22/2003 1:17:06 AM I am a newbie (relatively) to recording my vocals. Every time I try mixing them, they stick out like a sore thumb, no matter how much I lower them, compress them, or use reverb/chorus on them. Up till now I didn't really care, but now I'm doing a duet with a pro singer, and my vocals sound "plastic" compared to hers (recorded in another studio). My mic is pretty decent for vocals, I think it's just a mixing problem. I have virtually EVERY Direct-X plugin made, so I have the tools, just not the know-how. PLEASE HELP ME ASAP! :)

I dont personally use vocals in my music, but I have had the same problems with the occasional speech sample or even getting a mid-range lead to sit nicely in the mix. When you say you've tried everything like reverb, compression, volume etc thats all you really need, its just that you HAVE to get them all just right, and make sure things are in the right order. ie: do u want the compression before or after the reverb? You can get some nice quirky effects just by messin around with the order the fx are in. This may also sound really obvious, but maybe the vocals/track arnt suitable for each other, and whatever tweaks you make it may never sound how you envisage it to sound. If you got the time send me a sample of the backing and a seperate vocal sample and Ill have a mess around with them. Good luck mate thelair@silky.dj
