ok, im starting to use some VST synth plug-ins for acid. as oppose to using reason slaved to acid. here are my questions:

1. can i insert effects envelopes on midi tracks as i would to a regular wav track?? it seems as if i cant. also, if i am using automated effects, can those be used in a similar fashion?? it doesnt seem like this can be done!?!?

2. is there a way of listening (monitoring) your main mix (the backing project) as i am editing my midi track?? (playing the main project, as i am laying a bass line down in the piano roll editor)

3. last but not least...anyone know of any good "trancy" VST synth plug-ins?? i have one thats pretty good. (plastic-z) any other ideas??

4. oh, sorry...one more question. WHY IS THE LATENCY SOOO HIGH??? it takes almost half a second for me to hear a note, after i depress it on my keyboard. (i use the oxygen 8) i do believe i am using the most current drivers.

thanks in advance for any help...

1. You can insert Synth FX by clicking the green plug-in button under the respective synth in the Mixer. (This acts like a track-level FX for a digital audio track, so you can't exactly adjust FX via envelopes.)

Once you insert an FX on a synth, try opening up the bus tracks view (U on your keyboard). If the FX is automatable (is that a word?), you should be able to select which parameter you want to automate and adjust its envelope from here. (You can also choose which parameters to automate for the synth via the Mixer.)

2. The only way to do this is via whatever hardware audio interface (e.g., a soundcard) that you're using. Most allow this and some don't.

While this could be done via software (Vegas 4.0 does it), it eats up processor cycles that could be used elsewhere (not to mention it usually requires the use of the ASIO driver model). Better to do it externally if possible.

3. I can't exactly help here, not being a VST/MIDI guru myself.

4. Latency is all dependent on how well your system is configured, hardware and software wise. If using MIDI a lot, you should use the ASIO driver model.

For question 1:

Forgot to add that you can also insert a Bus in the Mixer, then send the MIDI synth to the Bus (via the Mixer), where you can then adjust/add FX via the bus tracks view.
