the Tascam website. www.tascam.com has a great doc on optimizing for XP. It's under the US-428 downloads page.

As for pro tools and Acid. Well, they are a bit different, and therefore not really comparable.

ACID and ProTools overlap some features, but look at what you want to do and the price point. ACID = CHEAP ProTools= EXPENSIVE and you're locked into an evil upgrade chain. I would never, ever, ever, ever recommend and DIgiDesign product. They're nothing but trouble. ACID is reliable, easy, and fun. ProTools is the devil.
