Subject:Pops and cracks on multi tracks playback

Hi,everybody
I've just upgraded from Win 98 to Win 2000.
Acid 4.0 worked pretty well before, and seems to work still now, everything but the
songs I'm recording with the new OS:
E.G. If I play an old song(made under win 98) it sounds good, but if i try to add two or three brand new audio tracks
(recorded under Win 2000) they sound with some ugly and constant cracks and pops.
But if I play the new tracks individually they sound good ,and even If I swap all the tracks playing all of them in Solo Mode together ,they still sound good.
I tried to tweak with latency with no results.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Bruno
P.S.
Never had this problem, even not with PII 350 mhz and 64 ram.....

My eqp:
Win 2000
512 ram
maxtor 80 gigs audio dedicated (8 megs buffer)
Echo Mia 24 (wdm driver installed 6.08 ver)

Have you tried using the same number of all NEW tracks? (and how many tracks are we talking about here, antway?)

Thanks for Your reply.
You mean letting play all the new tracks only ?
They sound well....Together and even one by one in solo mode.
I get the problem when I try to play all the project tracks together.
I started with a six audio track project, then i tried with a three track one.

Usually this would be simple routine and( it is ,with old material) but actually the result is still the same:chunks and stuttering audio .

What I meant was, try using as many NEW tracks as you were when having problems, with no old tracks. If it still does it, it's might be a driver problem. Did you upgrade to Win2000 or is it a fresh install? If it's an upgrade, did you reinstall Acid?

Is the Mia sharing resources with other devices? The Mia, like some other soundcards, might not like sharing, though Windows may be reporting everything is okay.

how many of your tracks are one-shots?, and if there are a lot of them, how many are playing at the same time

Thanks Guys for your attention!
Well
1)Win 2000 is fresh installed and I changed the Mia pci slot moving it far away from video card .
2)Mia shared her irq with usb controller and video card, drived by the ACPI,then i messed it up a little with bios settings and succeded to give her an exclusive irq .
This time I was sure to have solved the problem but no way.....

3)If I only mute one audio track the problem disappears.
4)I noticed that the problem shows itself with one-shots and beatmapped tracks. If I convert an one shot in a loop track the problem disappears, but only for that track.
5) Old songs with more than 20 tracks sounds well.
6)Old song with three old tracks and only new one , sound stuttering.
If i put all of those four tracks in solo mode, together, they sound well.
If i start again reverting the song in normal mode they have pops again.
Seems like being in Sonic Foundry twilight zone.... :-)
Thanks again

Extremely bizarre, especially with the sixth situation you described.

It could be video based. Have you tried doing any of this with acceleration turned down or off? (Try updating drivers if any are available as well.)

Also check to see you're running at the optimum speed for your drive by checking the transfer mode under the respective drive channel your hard drive is on under Device Manager. It should be "Ultra DMA Mode 5" based upon the drive specs you gave. I'm pretty sure it is running at that speed but it couldn't hurt to check.

One more question - are all the tracks the same bit rate and frequency?

It's happening to me too.

Lags in microphone-recorded tracks. pops, cracks.

why did I get 4.0 again?

I've got win 98.

guess I'll fiddle around and see if I can fix it. It's maddening

The storm went away as it came:
Simply misteriously...
Now my recorded audio tracks sounds well.
Of course, that song still has the problem and I realized that i'll never
discover why .
Thanks to everybody for attention and the precious advices
