The Mother Board has a built in sound card. It plays existing wav & MP3 files fine, I can rip audio and that plays fine. However audio recorded into Line In / into on board sound card, Monitoring during recording is fine, but playback of just recorded audio contains a high freqency tone. I had the same problem with the previous computer I built and corrected the problem with a PCI Sound Card. Is there some slick trick to getting SF to work with a built in sound card ???? It sounds like you have a possible feedback situation, which is most likely in the windows mixer section. Click on the windows mixer section. Goto OPTIONS>PROPERTIES, then select RECORDING, Hit "ok". This will bring up your input recording mixer. Make sure everything is either muted, or fully turned down in that mixer section except for the "LINE IN" fader. You are probably either getting noise from one of those other inputs, or getting a slight feedback situation. If that doesn't fix the problem, then I would say, it's the onboard sound card itself. These aren't the best for recording, there are many high speed circuits surrounding the A/D converters in those, it is very possible you are getting noise induced from these surrounding circuits into your audio signal. That is the reason why many people swear by having an external sound card. The reason why it was fixed by adding a PCI sound card in the past, was because either the sound card was located further away from these noise making circuits, or the sound card itself had better EMC filtering circuits or better shielding. red
