Subject:SF 5.0 Problems with WinXP

I have reinstalled soundforge, deleting and clearing out all registry entries as well as old folders each time, but after it installs I run the program, enter in the serial number and then it brings up a box saying "program not properly installed, please reinstall". I am using WinXP with SP1. Any suggestions or thoughts for those who have had this same experiance or know what could be causing the problem? Thanks in advance.

I know this thread is olde, but i'm suddenly having this problem as well. I just installed the WinXP Service Pack 1.. and then i got this error when i tried running SF. So i uninstalled, then reinstalled.. when i get to the serial number input, i do that.. but then when i click 'Next' i get this same error again. The demo version runs fine though.....

Is there a solution to this?

We've seen with several current threads that the new SF 7 won't work with Win98/Me and previous.

Will WinXP work with all older versions of SF?

I believe that Sound Forge 5.0 and above are certified to work with XP.

When you uninstall and then reinstall, try restarting your system before launching SF for the first time. If that doesn't work, uninstall Sound Forge in Safe Mode (repeatedly press F8 while your system boots before Windows loads), then restart in normal mode and reinstall.

Are you installing as Administrator, or have admin permissions? The SF 5.0 installer may not be checking this.

WinXP has increased file and registry security compared to Win2K so you must be an admin to install under WinXP. When SF 5.0 was released WinXP may not have been out yet (I'd have to check the dates).
