Boy, do I feel screwed. I just purchased Sound Forge 7.0 at the upgrade price, but didn't know that it doesn't support Windows ME. So now I have to spend more money to upgrade to XP. Thanks for nothing Sony/Sonic Foundry! I know that most people consider ME to be inferior, but I have had no problems with it. Vegas runs fine, so why screw us over with Sound Forge? I am an unhappy camper! Buyers beware. Maybe the thread is right...this is just a cash grab. MEP |

Did you not read the 'Minimum Requirements" before buying ? FWIW Me is almost universally considered an abomination wrt use as a DAW. It's really only 98SE with a bit of shonky gimmicky crap tacked on, which makes it less compatible and stable than it's predecessor. There are technical reasons why almost all new software from any company that has 'professional values' no longer supports Win16 apps, not the least being that in the near future they will no longer be supported even by MS. Time to get real, and more up to something infinitely better in all ways (except 'legacy driverless peripherals' ). geoff |

This has been expounded in many previous posts: http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=217872&Replies=16&Page=2 http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=217167&Replies=9&Page=5 It is unfortunate that Sony decided to drop 9x support since it still makes up a sizeable chuck of the market (40+%). However, the "Windows 9x sucks" people are right about one thing, Windows NT 5.x (aka 2000 and XP) is the future. At some point, you will have to upgrade or be left behind. That is the way the world works. Personally, I don't think that point is now especially since I have carefully evaluated 2000 and XP and found nothing that deserves my hard earned cash (Note: this is not an invitation for comments on all the improved "features" of XP). At least Sony is better than Adobe. Some Adobe junk requires WinXP SP 1. |

Win98 and ME are being phased out weather we like it or not. You will be forced to purchase XP and you notice I didn't say Win2k. XP will have all of the new stuff like hyperthreading and SAT raid drives and Win2k will not. JJK |

I'm sorry, MEP, but if you evaluated the tech industry, you'd notice that XP is where everyone is headed. It was just a matter of time. Think about it: Would you rather develop for one, (far more) stable platform or spread resources thin amongst several? Apple's strength relies on the former (though no OS is really perfect), so it's about time we did too. Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |
