I am getting popping noises when recording a track via my sound card. If I strictly use acid loops I have no problems until I start recording gutair or keyboard tracks. Also, if I lay down a simple beat using "one shots" or record a drum beat from my keyboard, the playback doesnt keep the correct tempo. "latency problem"? Programs: acid 3 and cakewalk guitar tracks (same problem either program) System: Win98SE, directxv.9, P4 1.8ghz, 526megs ram, Gforce64meg video card, audiophile 2496 with updated drivers. cable modem My system should be fast enough but cakewalk drops frames when I try to record more than two tracks. I also try to capture with acid video factory and always drop frames, whats wrong with my system?? any help out there. Thanks |

If you're having trouble with both apps, look into your hardware and software setup. Keep software installations to a minimum if possible. Try to make sure that devices like the Audiophile are not sharing IRQ resources. You'll ideally want the Audiophile to have an IRQ all to itself. Try disabling your network card. Try also reducing or turning off video acceleration as well as update any drivers for devices such as your video card. It may also help to do a scandisk operation and a disk defrag from time to time, about once every two weeks. If none of these suggestions help, you can also try installing a second hard drive (configured as secondary master on the secondary IDE channel; keep your system drive as primary master on the primary IDE channel) and keep anything music-related on the second drive. uhm i know you probably know this ... but since youre getting the snap crackle pop with all applications n keyboard and guitar tracks... you sure the signal is not simply distorted? this is basic stuff, but youll need to use your line input if your recording the output of your keyboard or guitar effects unit...try turning down the volume knobs of those units ... also try turning down the line input in the recording properties for your soundcard for your guitar... make sure the signal is not distorted within the (presumably digital) effects unit ... which happens but is not always heard if youre just playing it ... i had a problem with snaps and pops once ... but it was during playback as well... might still help: i just plugged the soundcard into a different slot as it was too close to the video card ... also : make sure your hard drive cables dont lie too close to your soundcard... sorry if you checked all this already ;) |
