I still haven't gotten to try it yet (downloaded the demo). The I doubt i'l buy it though. I do all my editing on my own at home and don't have the $1500 for a copy. :( But it DOES look impressive. :)

It is expensive although there are other ways of looking at it. What about all the other stuff you buy at different times.

RED will do a lot of the things those other apps do and do it better, by far.

How's this post spam? when Satish posts that a new version on PluginPac 3D LE is out, or the frameserver, winmorph, or his released date of TBA "Poor Mans Boris", that's not considered spam, but it's the same as Tim here. Should we ban Satish? Or JetDV for posting about his Vegas newsletter?

We should consider ourselves lucky the somone at Boris cares enough to care what we think! :)

Over the last 6 months, since I bought Boris Red 2.5, Tim W. at BorisFX has been exceedingly kind and helpful to me, including allowing me to beta test Red 2.5. He deserves all the respect Satish gets as I think he offers more than he asks.

Give him respect, guys, he deserves it.

The issue was that the Borris demo didn't have the Vegas plugin enabled. A lot of curious people were really dissappointed.

Happily, it sounds like the plugin works now so vegas users can evaluate Red.

It's GOOD to have a little attention from other vendors. And this really wasn't spam at al.

It doesn't matter what Boris costs...it matters that they recognize the value of partnering with SONY Vegas!
THAT's a compliment and major industry recognition.
You may or may not choose to invest in Boris Red 3 OpenGL.
The Vegas users that do invest in Boris will need help learning this great new software.
We should all thank Tim Doyle for offering his support.

I think, what people need to know is how all this Red and Vegas integration meant to be used.
Red 3GL is not your typical Vegas plugin. I would compare this to camcorder and computer/NLE "integration". Just the fact that I can control camcorder from NLE and capture footage does not make it a plugin. I will not go out shooting video on camcorder connected to computer while controlling it from NLE (well, you can use camcorder as live cam, of course, but that's not what it is intended for).
So with Boris Red 3GL the typical workflow as I understand it (I just started digging into it) is to develop effects in the Red standalone and save presets. Then, when using it from Vegas, use/load presets instead of doing the entire thing in plugin mode, and then just tweak/tune it. The idea being that you don't have to render it before bringing to Vegas, and you can stack it with other effects in Vegas that way. Yes, Red behaves totally as your normal plugin when you preview effects/transitions in Vegas, but besides that it stops being plugin and becomes a whole separate application on its own.
