I have a GRIPE!! SPACEBAR TIMELINE-TRIMMER ISSUES!

ZippyGaloo wrote on 9/30/2003, 8:28 PM
My GRIPE: When I am paused on the timeline (by hitting the space bar) and open a clip in the trimmer (by making a time selection and choosing "open in trimmer" from a right click) and then play the clip in the trimmer (by hitting the space bar) and then accidently clicking in the timeline somewhere to make an adjustment (that's why we like Vegas right, because everything doesn't have to STOP in order to make a quick change) and then THINKING I'm going to be pausing the trimmer clip by hitting the space bar BUT INSTEAD it STARTS the timeline playing!!! NOW I HAVE TWO THINGS GOING AND DONT' KNOW WHICH IS WHICH AND IT'S A PAIN IN THE BUTT TO FIDDLE AROUND TRYING TO STOP EVERYTHING!!! NOT TO MENTION IT'S CRASHED THE PROGRAM A FEW TIMES (ESPECIALLY IF IT'S A LOOPED NON RENDERED SECTION OF FX, ETC)!!!

We like Vegas because everything doesn't have to STOP in order to make a quick change? RIGHT? RIGHT?

I don't think you should be able to play BOTH the timeline and the TRIMMER at once because you are obviously only capable of watching/working with one at a time!!!

FIX IT!!!

There may be instances where one would like to have the trimmer and timeline play at the same time.

Remember that there is a general minimum intelligence level required of the user to use any software effectively. If you cannot keep track of two separate items (the timeline and the trimmer) the bug may not be in the software. Understand?

Vegas is like a rickety old car...where you hit the horn and the wipers go on and then you hit the wipers and the horn stops honking!

ZippYGaloo, what a poo
Get off now, go lay an egg
Stop by Adobe, your presence they beg.
Dismantle Premiere, go away from here.

And that’s exactly what should have happened! You changed the focus from the trimmer to the timeline when you clicked on it. Therefore the keyboard input is now directed to the timeline. It makes perfect sense to me. Perhaps you should use the graphical interface (i.e., click on the play button) if you don’t like the way Microsoft Windows handles window/keyboard focus.

The same thing happens when you are previewing an effect. If you hit space bar while the FX dialog is open, the timeline does not play. This is because the dialog has the keyboard focus. You have to either click on the main window to give the timeline keyboard focus OR hit the F12 key which will always play regardless of what window has the focus. It’s just a matter of understand how the graphical interface behaves on the PC platform.

Perhaps you should just by a Mac or use Linux if you’d like different behavior.

Zippy Said, "Vegas is like a rickety old car...where you hit the horn and the wipers go on and then you hit the wipers and the horn stops honking!"

This may be his most revealing statement yet about his overall understanding of Vegas, or should I say misunderstanding.

Zip, you really don't get it do you.

Zippy, tell us: were you born this abysmally stupid, or is it something you have to continually work on? Either way, you should be congratulated for taking "being a complete idiot" to a level never before seen in the history of mankind.

Hmm what's the point of using the trimmer anyways ?
mcgeedo wrote on 10/1/2003, 8:20 AM
Maybe we could take up a collection and buy Zip a copy of Premier, or something.

Actually, I use it quite frequently. In my quest to convert my not-yet-on-DVD-and-probably-won't-ever-be laserdiscs to DVD, I need to blend each individually captured laserdisc side into one smooth, unbroken AVI. For that, I use the trimmer to cut out the leading and trailing black spots of each captured side, leaving only the actual video to be put into the project. Works wonders; I've already converted the original Star Wars trilogy with Vegas and DVD-A. Of course, you *do* need lots of HD space. :-)

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

If it didn't work this way, YOU would be complaining LOUDLY that it doesn't. (I can use CAPS, too. As well as the BOLD and ITALICS features.)

Uh oh, now zippy is going to have to study up on his HTML codes so he can do BOLD and Italics too :)
ZippyGaloo wrote on 10/1/2003, 11:40 AM
I'll take you up on that!!

It's too bad there isn't a forum admin here to blow this guy away! I can't imagine that someone at SOFO/SONY does not moderate these boards it's obvious this guy has no intention of doing anything but whine and bitch!

27 minutes and he still hasn't figured out how to do BOLD and Italics :) Musy be too busy finding more flaws with Vegas
