If the former, you'll want to record digital audio rather than MIDI, which is a different monster altogether. You'll have to connect the MPC's appropriate output (like the 1/4" outs) to the appropriate input on your soundcard/audio interface. If the latter, ensure that MIDI input is enabled in the MIDI tab under Options>Preferences. You should then be able to record MIDI data by selecting the same input (under "record device") specified under the MIDI tab.
