Hi, I've got my preamp and mic plugged into LINE-IN on my sound blaster live card. I've got playback in the headphones, The card is selected in audio device for record and playback. But when I redord all I see is a blip on the monitor. Very low level. When I playback the record take on the track it doesn't play anything at all. But I can yell in the mic and see it register a little bit.

I have set record levels and line in levels for the card in control panel, so what the heck is it?

Fall

I take it the recording input for the line in is jacked all the way up in the software mixer? If so, is the preamp's gain cranked? Does that help any?

they are, yes. this is really strange as I've tried everything. I hope this isn't another problem with windows xp pro. I've been having nothing but trouble since I upgraded.

Any other ideas? The mic should go into the line-in right? not the mic-in on the card?

thanks

Ok, solved this one. This is really funny. I went into volume control, in record, and noticed what used to be called MUTE in previous (to XP) windows platforms is now called SELECT. So I'm thinking all my devices should be UNCHECKED, so as to not be MUTED. OH NO,... you have to check SELECT so that you can hear the device! It's not mute anymore it's select.

JEEZ.

Thanks
