I am new to usin Acid, and I just bought Acid Pro 4.0, and have a Yamaha portable mini grand with midi in and out, when I record from the keyboard using midi to Acid, it only records as a piano. I change instruments on the keyboard, but it only will record as piano. Am I doing something wrong, am I not able to record other instruments with my keyboard. Or is my problem with the keyboard, or the software, perhaps user error. I am new to Acid and I am not having a very easy time getting where I want to go, and help will be greatly appreciated. Thanx! |

When you record with MIDI, all you are recording is the MIDI information, not the voice. Changing the voice on your keyboard will probably not have any effect on what is played back from Acid. The default voice on GM software synths is grand piano. The output on the MIDI track in Acid is what will control the playback voice (one of the beautiful things about MIDI). The output must be to some kind of software synth, be it the DLS soft synth included with Acid, the Microsoft Wavetable synth included with Windows, or a third party synth such as Atmosphere, Kontakt or Crystal (Crystal is free, by the way, and not too bad). Record your MIDI track, make sure that track is selected, slide open the soft synth properties page on the bottom half of the screen. There you can select a voice from the General MIDI (GM) set. Now playback your MIDI track and you should hear it play with the new voice. You can also change the voice while the track is playing. Hope this helps. John. |

To add to what John said, if you want to record the sounds your Yamaha produces, you will want to record digital audio rather than MIDI (which is just a set of instructions, not actual audio). We can make suggestions if you provide the soundcard or audio interface you're using. The simplest way is to connect the line out on your Yamaha to the line input of the soundcard or audio interface you would use for recording. The output of the keyboard could be the same used for your headphones. HTH, Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |

Lol, thanks, Iacobus! Hehe, it never occured to me that he might be just trying to record the AUDIO output from his keyboard! I just saw midi cables and thought he was trying unsuccessfully to send program changes to Acid from his keyboard. Clueless in the dark, John. |
