Subject:REWARD!!!! CORRUPT ACID FILE HELP!

I've tried everything from tech support to an independent file restoration company to open this Acid File. Nothing works. This acid 2.0 file is corrupt and I get the "Unkown Error has occured= 8004E00Ah" message. If you can open this file I'll totally reward you. It still "weighs" 272kb and has some of the info locked in it. (WHen I drop it in a txt editor I can make out some of it) At the least, if anyone can read the headers and help me resore some of my settings I'd be seriously thankful and give you a reward. I'm not rich but I want this song back. Email me at vicdmise@hotmail.com and i'll send you the acid file.
(incidentally, this file was zipped and stored on a Cd at one point which may have contributed to the corruption. Also, no other version of acid will open it. )

As an aside, be careful when archiving material like your projects.

Do not use a proprietary technology like Roxio's DirectCD or Ahead's InCD apps that let you use your CD burner like a floppy disk. In my experiences, they've just been too unreliable.

I absolutely agree with Iacobus. Use Winzip or Winrar if you want to compress it, then write it as a data file to CD. (If it's really good, put it on 2 or 3 different ones!)

Thanks guys. Unfortunately that's exactly what i did. I rar'd it (using rar2.0) and burned it to a cd. i guess it corrupted somehow. I 've tried using winrar to rebuild it and it does seem to see something unusual for a sec, but then it's all ok. I don't know what the problem is or where exactly it happens as it's the entire directory folder complete with wavs that's rar'd. I'm totally miserable about this.

When using RAR compression to archive important documents, be sure to add the parity information in the file options. I believe the flag you are looking for is called the "Recovery Record" or something similar.

This adds parity info to the file so that it can be repaired if it becomes damaged in some way. It will increase the size of your compressed file, but it's worth it if the information you are archiving is important.

The file is pretty much horked. I tried - forgot to email you. One more thing to try, but it doesn't look like it will be possible as there are too many portions of the file that are corrupt.
