I almost hate to say it because I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, but after looking at the demo a little I would have to say SF7 is more like something that should have been called v6.5.

Did it really take them a year and a half to add these features or is there a lot of infrastructure under the hood that we don't know about yet?

I have to kind of agree, this was a side grade at best and in reality should have been an update to 6.0 for some of the shortcomings it addresses, but especially with the flaws showing up so far, microsoft sdks being available 8 months in advance or not on the wma issue and so far no direct quicktime6 export I can see (but it is the demo and maybe that's another thing entirely) I like 6.0 though quite a bit and enjoy using it with acid. So I cannot say I'm running away from sonic foundry yet. But I'm hoping this was more a sony marketing error than a sign of things to come and they can turn it around.

Any rationale for what differentiates a half from a whole? Pray tell, then, what would make it 7.0?

Not a thing as I can see from here. I'm hoping 7a or whatever it will be will shore up those things

when that hits the operator will have to ask me to slowdown giving the credit card order

What exactly were you hoping/looking for in the next version?

7.0 gives the ability to work on a project like you do with ACID or Vegas, which means you don't have to commit to changes even after you close the file. That's a good thing, no?

I guess it just depends on how you rate the worth of software. If they came out with another version in 2005 that had these features, for instance:

- CD Text burning from the Region names

And that was it.

Would you consider it worth $99 or $149? Some people would and some would not. But generally it's the amount or scope of the features that determine how to choose a version number, not how long it takes you to write the code.

It just seems to me that the features in v7 don't warrent a full version bump. They didn't really add anything substantial, only small improvments to already existing features.

Basicly.

I think I took to many psycology classes in college.

It is possible however that I may have been a little bit too hasty in making that 6.5 version statement because now that I'm looking at some of the more indepth feature pages (which didn't used to be there) I'm seeing some pretty cool stuff.

One thing in particular is the Sound Forge Project Files. The details on that says that it basicly saves your history list to where you can undo things later. Now that is incredibly cool.

Then also the drag and drop CD ripping and the ability to work in compressed file formats will also be a handy feature.

However, I don't think the features are worth more than $99 for my uses. But maybe I'll try to keep my complainging to myself next time.

That was one of the main new feature of Sound Forge 6 (really worth it).

Hello,

For me, the addition of the new and more accurate meters, analyzer, and possibility of save projects, is enough for pay 99$. SF is an editor, a mastering tool, and had need of a good meter, analisis and projects, was necessary

I'm very happy with the new SF

Cheers

I'm just glad i didn't go for 6.0 when it came out.
It only seems like a short time ago.

Saved my money...wait a bit and get all the new 6.0 & 7.0 stuff.

Good things come to those who wait.
(hopefully it will be worth it)

I've not been running SF6 very long, and Sony did let me download the upgrade (hey--sounds neat!) for free.

If I install version 7 and don't like it, or want to work at the SF 6 level, will I have to do a complete reinstall of SF6 ? Anybody out there know? I've got some presets I wouldn't want to lose.

Keether, I've installed 7, and it has imported all my "home-grown" presets in areas such as mp3 encoding settings, Wave Hammer and so on automatically.

I've left 6 in place. (And it still works, of course)

Based on that, my guess is the answer to your question is "yes," but I'd like to see an expert opinion.
