For #1, does this link help rectify?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q121/0/07.asp&NoWebContent=1

For #2, are you talking about from the DX Favorites list in the pulldown menu, or in the plug-in chainer? If the first, did you try "Organize Favorites" or "Recreate from Plug-in name"?

HTH,
Joel

Thanks for you response.

#1: the link is for NT/2K, I use XP Pro.

#2: when I open "Recreate by plugin name..." only makes a folder named Sony. With the previous SF version, this makes one folder for each company name. If I open Organize, the Third Party folder is empty.

I recommend to remain with the version 6 that it is an excellent software piece until a patch that you solve the problems described in my previous messages appears.

Erni.

I'm also using XP and had the same problem. I tried to modify the registry and the d word value in XP is already set to a value of "1" I have OK'd through the error and I have no problems running 7.0, but I don't know yet what I'm missing because of this missing file...I've uninstalled and re-installed, and I've run the setup repair. Reboot, disable virus protection, open 7.0, error message...

Let me know if there's something else to try...

Thanks!

Dave

I searched the 7.0 sub folders, and the only thing I can come up with is: Is this not loading a file for the shuttle pro? Erni do you use a shuttle pro v.1 or v.2?

Any other ideas?

I am furious. I decided to try v7 by overwriting my v6e. Now I cannot see my plugins and get the same errors as Erni. I uninstall the demo, go back to v6e, which was working perfectly 2 hours ago, and now IT WON"T SEE MY PLUGINS EITHER!!!!! Same errors as described by Erni, i.e. not loading some rundll modules on startup and only seeing the SF plugins!!! Great intro to Sony's running of SF!!!! WHAT TO DO NOW-GO TO WAVELAB???!!!! My other SF programs (ACID & Vegas) do see my plugins, so what the _______!!!!!!!!!!???

analoguekid, not, I don't use shuttle.

I am using Sound Forge from the version 4 and I have never had problems. I am very astonished with this that happens. As this problem it is not only mine, I hope Sony finds quick a solution.

cheers. Erni.

Ok, what is happening is that when SF first opens, it is not able to scan for the plugins as it usually does and instead generates the error message that it can't find some dll module, which I presume is used for the scanning. My Acid (4e) and Vegas (3c) and Batch Converter still do the scanning and the plugins all show up in these three progs, so WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE???!!!
The very annoying thins is that whenj I reinstall my full version of SF6e, it now gives the same error!!! Very frustrating and must be fixed as I use SF EVERYDAY!!!

I would guess that you recently installed a .dll that is telling Windows it is a DirectShow audio transform filter, but really isn't or is otherwise misbehaving, or perhaps is still registered, but no longer exists. For some reason, it did not trigger a re-grovel in previously installed apps.

To diagnose, you might try a little utility called DXMan from AnalogX (www.analogx.com), which will show you what is installed and will allow you to unregister or re-register entries that may be causing a problem.

OK, As previously stated, my other programs such as Acid, Vegas, Wavelab see my plugins. The only 1 that doesn't is SF. And now whether I use V5, v6 or v7, I have the same problem. Before I upgraded to 7, all was bliss. ANUBODY HAVE A REASINABLE SOLUTION TO THIS???!!!!

Thanks for you response, sonic, but I erase every "No" in the DXMan list and the result is the same.

How is it that when I uninstall SF 7, do a manual cleanout of the registry, reinstall v5 or v6, I still get the same error, i.e. SF does not see my plugins???(Acid, Vegas and Wavelab do still see them). Upon opening, SF does not scan for the plugins like the other progs, and in fact gives the error messages eluded to in this thread. Is there a file, etc. installed somewhere in windows that affects this? Come on guys, somebody at Sony must have a clue to this!!! I seem to remember this happening with a version of Acid (maybe 3.0b??), where it would actually hide all of the plugins from any of the SF, oops, Sony progs and a subsequent version fixed the problem Do we need an upgrade of v7 already??!!

Well if things follow the course of Vegas 4 and Acid 4, we will have to wait a few months before SF7 is really ready. I'm going to purchase it to take advantage of the discount and because I trust that eventually they will iron everything out. In my view, Vegas 4 only became usable (stable) when it got to the 4.0d update and I didn't even install it till then. Its pretty obvious that if you install a new version of one of the SoFo/Sony apps you are volunteering to be an early beta tester and should expect to encounter problems. Clearly this isn't the way it should be and this issue is my # 1 complaint with SoFo/Sony. But it appears that this is the reality we have to live with, so rather than go through hell with the newest versions, I've just decided to follow this approach and avoid the aggravation. I'll leave it to other more courageous and adventurous souls to sort out the bugs. ;-)

Peace,

drbam

1. Start->Run. Type in regedit, click OK.
2. Go to the following location in the Registry Editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
3. On the right side you should see NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation. Double click that.
4. Make sure the window says Hexadecimal, then change the 1 to a 0.
5. Close Registry Editor, reboot the computer, then reinstall the program.

Works like a charm. Thanks a zillion!!!
I love these forums!!!
