Hi,
I want to make a cd that is basically like one long song but without the 2 second gaps of silence... i still want to be able to skip to a different track also. I have a bunch of mp3s here that i made and they blend together one after another and i want to be able to burn em to a cd for a friend. I dont know how to explain it really so sorry if its hard for you to understand... I just want to know how to take out the 2 seconds of silence in between songs. I have a few programs I use to burn with-- Acid pro 3 has its own copy to cd feature, drag and drop cd and also Nero Burning rom which is on my other computer. Please let me know cause I dont want to just mix a 30 to 40 minute song or anything I want whoever is listening to it to be able to just skip to another track if they want... Sorta like that Trance Control cd i have... its one big mix. I think DJ Keoki has a cd out like that too. Please respond casketcrewchick@yahoo.com Thanks a bunch!

There is no way to do this with ACID. You would need to use something like our CD Architect to make a "non-stop" mix CD.

Ted, i see this topic come up way too often. Have you ever considered putting in a blurb that says "ACID is not usable for making mix CDs" on the product description page? ;)

Not a bad idea! That's why the ever-popular "vocals" question is in the forums FAQ ;-)

Well, wait, isn't this possible?

Couldn't you just mix one giant continuous track, render a wave, split it at the track intervals you want, then burn the whole thing DAO? That would remove the silence, maybe...but with CDArchitect it's downright easy...

Metrazol, of course that process is possible, but ... it involves software other than ACID. Since ACID doesn't do DAO burning you'd have to switch to something else like Nero, Easy CD Creator, or even CDArchitect do burn the mix CD. Hence my statement that you can't make a mix CD with ACID.

For that matter, creating the mix in ACID is a pain in the butt anyway. I'm not quite sure why so many people pick this software for this task when it can be done (and done completely including buring the CD) much easier in many cheaper software packages.

Kelly, just out of curiosity, which packages are you referring to that would make creating a mix (compilation of sounds onto one wave file).

Well, of SONY's offerings, CD-Architect is designed to do this task almost effortlessly. It's not really cheap, but it is less than ACID.

Nero can handle this task out of the box - about $45
http://www.audioutilities.com/mp3-dj-mixer/mp3-dj-mixer.htm - $29.95
http://www.audio-now.com/sound_editor/mp3-audio-mixer.htm - $29.95
http://audio.newfreeware.com/programs/1506/ - $29.99
http://www.tucows.com/preview/209284.html - $39.95

Do a google search for more. I found a few thousand links.

You place each track seperately in Acid and prepare your mix. Then save out each track as a wav file, using the loop area to mark your start and finish points and saving with "Save Loop Region Only" switched on. Make sure your start and end points match up. As mentioned before, you can't create a seamless cd mix with Acid itself. All CD tracks created through Acid will add 2 seconds of run between tracks. But other software which allow Disk At Once burning, such as EZ CD Creator, will. So, you just burn your wav files to CD in order that way. I created an album recently with seamless breaks this way, without the need to render the entire album into one single wav file.

Hope this helps,

Ridley.

Also.... You could render it as one long track. In Nero, add the track as the only song in a compilation. Right click on the track and choose properties, then the indexes, limits, splits tab. Nero will build a Wav image of the track. Zoom in a little, use the play function and insert an new index marker where you want track breaks. When you have all the breaks marked, choose Split At Index Positions. This will tell Nero to break the file (has no effect on the original file) at the index markers. Say ok, it returns to the compilation window and now you have separate tracks. Select all BUT the first track, right click, choose properties. In the pause field enter 0 (zero). Say ok.
You will now burn a cd with no pause between breaks. Make sure Nero is set for DAO (disk-at-once) burning, not track-at-once.
If you inadvertantly set the first track to zero pause as well, it's ok, Nero will catch it and offer to do it for you at burn time. (The first track can't have zero pause before it). I do this all the time with full album rips that are continuous files, you will only notice it if you are looking for it. Not production burning, but who has a $5k burner laying around?

Hope this help,
John.
