Subject:Acid won't play my Audigy EX sound card

Acid 4.0 plays fine using the Windows Classic Wave Driver, but when I set the audio to use my Audigy I get an error message: "The ASIO device SB Audigy ASIO 24/96 [E400] does not support the current sample rate."

The sample rate is well below audigy's capabilities, and my drivers are new.

Audigy works fine on mp3's, system sounds, and Sonar, but not Acid. Any ideas?

The Audigy ASIO driver does not support 44.1 kHz sample rates. Actually, the Audigy doesn't support anything in hardware other than 48 kHz.

You must set your ACID project sample rate to 48 kHz to use the Audigy ASIO drivers.

Thanks. BUT...

Even when I set the rates less than that, my card is still rejected. And non-Asio Adigy options aren't even offered in the dropdown window to select audio devices...Just the Asio choices and the basic Windows wave player.

So if I want high-def sound from my Audigy, I can't get it.

What is "high def" sound?

The Audigy hardware only physically supports 48 kHz. When you use the Wave or Mapper drivers with the Audigy, Windows is resampling the 44.1 kHz (or lower) to 48 Khz.

What rate are you trying to set to that is "less than that"? Less than what?

Bottom line:
If you use the Audigy ASIO drivers, you must set your ACID project to 48 kHz.

If you want to use 44.1 kHz, then you must select either the Sound Mapper or the Wave Classic driver when using the Audigy.

No, Audigy 2 platinum EX supports up to 96 khz. (specs at http://www.soundblaster.com/products/audigy2_platinum_ex/specs.asp)

By the phrase "less than that," mean that no matter how low I set the audio properties (I can set it for 8000 sample rate, for example), Acid rejects the Audigy card as an audio option. Same error.

What Peter is saying is that when using the Creative ASIO driver the Audigy will not allow you to use all of it's 'supported' sample rates.

For example: When using the original SB Audigy PCI card via ASIO drivers you must always set the project sampling rate to 48KHz, if you choose anything else (higher or lower) it will not work. The Creative ASIO driver does not support any other sampling rate with this card.

Try setting your project to 48KHz, if that doesn't work, try 96KHz, try different rates until you find one that works. The ASIO driver most likely will not support all rates.

Your other option is to set the driver type to Classic Windows Wave Driver and then to choose the Audigy under the menus for Front/Rear/Etc. This way you should be able to use any sampling rate the Audigy claims support for, but you may have higher latency when working with soft synths or recording.

Guys, thanks for being so patient and helpful! I appreciate the tips. At this moment, I am listening to some very nice, very loud Acid music.
