So it appears SoundForge 7.0 is released... typically, there has been promo pricing for upgrading within the first 90 days or so. Will this tradition continue with Sony at the helm, or should I just order tonight?

I'm hoping the promo will come in the next few days - the whole Sony thing seems somewhat of a 'soft' launch.

I'm actually having problems downloading the demo; on a broadband connection the download is as slow as hell, about the speed of a dialup. I'm assuming it's issues with the new website, which does seem sluggish.

Indeed, though not dialup, I'm still getting about 19KB/sec. Not that impressive, though... didn't I used to get 200 from the old SF site?

My guess is that they're in some type of transistional period. I bet in the future www.sonicfoundry.com will be strictly for the media site live and we'll all be typing in something like www.sonypictures.com/mediasoftware. For now we're probably stuck on the slower server.

Oh for sure, the site speed is secondary. I'm more interested in understanding if I should order now, or wait for the type of price promos we've seen in the past.

I got a nice little promo offer in my email this afternoon. If you're a registered Sound Forge user and you've given them your email address and permission to contact you, you'll probably be getting one soon too.

You know, I was an aggressive spam fighter for several years and gave SoFo my spamtrap address (wasn't a spamtrap then) and have looked around for a way to change it to no avail. I have my profile setup with the "send me promotion stuff" with a sneakmail addy for the forums and receive nothing.

Sony/SoFo how do I change my registered addy?

MJ, send an email to customer service and ask. That worked for me.

I received the promo announcement this morning. $99 through Oct 31st for registered users.

That's a great deal -- I received the same today. I just wish they would sweeten it with a good priice on Noise Reduction (like $50). I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount but I think $279 is WAY over the top. Sony says Sound Forge has more of this and better that than the competition but the competition, most of it anyway, includes Noise Reduction (e.g., Adobe Audition, for example).

I think noise reduction is an essential element and should be included with Sound Forge AND Vegas. I guess no one else agrees with me since I've seen no similar comments? I think if they did this they could really open the flood gates of people rushing to buy ...

Got my promo today. Weu.

In terms of NR, I capitalized on the promo for SF 6 (upgrade from 5+NR), so I'm not too concerned. As NR goes, SF's plugin, though aging, is still the best out there that I've found. I can completely see why it is separate and not included, seeing as how it far out-features any other plugin or built-in NR I've seen.

MJ,

>>Sony/SoFo how do I change my registered addy?

You can use "Update user information" from the Help menu. You'll need a direct Internet connection for this to work.

Thanks Tracy,
I stumbled on that a couple of weeks ago and used it.
