I have never had this problem before, the only recent computer update I did was from microsoft on a directX 9 issue concerning my computers TV card.

It appears that the update you did for your TV card is causing problems with ACID's DirectSound Surround support.

Do you have the exact details on the update you applied for DirectX 9?

Possible work around:

While ACID is NOT running:

- Locate where you installed ACID. It will be something like:

C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry\ACID 4.0

- In this folder, locate the directory

\Audio Hardware Drivers

- In this directory you will find the file sfdsound.dll.
- Rename this file to sfdsound.xxx

Start ACID.

This should permit you to run ACID, though you will loose the Direct Sound Surround mapper as an option for audio playback.

We will investigate the issue, but any information regarding the DirectX 9 update you performed will help us to track this down. Also, what sound hardware do you use and what type of TV card do you have?

Thanks
Peter

why isn't there anything about acid40k.dll problems on the Knowledge Base?

Because this is just a symptom of a problem when something causes an exception in Windows. The problem may or may not have anything to do with acid40k.dll.

acid40k.dll is the ACID "kernel" dynamic link library. It connects to many things outside of ACID - i.e. hardware i/o, file i/o, plugins, etc, etc. So, when a plugin causes a crash, Windows may report the crash occuring in acid40k.dll only because the call to the plugin was made through the code in acid40k.dll.

In this particular case, the DirectSound support dll that ACID provides is connected through acid40k.dll. The exception reported has nothing to do with acid40k.dll.
