Subject:Repeat a Loop on Different Beat

Hello,

Using Acid Music or Sound Forge, how do you take a loop that repeats on every beat then change it to repeat on the fourth or eighth beat instead?

I don't want change my loop to "one shot" then space it out on the track. As you know, this takes too much time.

Thanks,
Glenn

You mean basically rearrange the Loop? It's somewhat cumbersome to do with ACID Music (ACID Pro has the Chopper, which would easily let you rearrange the Loop as you saw fit). Maybe if you paint out an entire instance of the event, then split it up and copy/paste accordingly? (Place the cursor over where you want the split to occur and press S on your keyboard.)

Using Sound Forge would be a matter of carefully copying, pasting and replacing.

To elaborate on Iacobus's explanation:

1) If you want to "change where the beat falls" for the entire loop and then repeat the entire loop, split or drag the edge to where you want it to start (using pencil tool). If you split it, get rid of the part you don't want. Grab the loop and put it on the beat you want to start on, then just drag it from the rear and it will keep repeating. (You might have to turn off snapping or zoom in to a more detailed resolution to get it just right.

2) If you want to just take part of the loop and repeat it, the Chopper makes it easy. In Acid Music, you'll have to split or drag the edge and size the clip to what you want, then CTRL+drag it to the next beat. Then you'll have two. Repeat to make four, eight, etc.

Perhaps "slip" editing would be helpful in acheiving this sort of thing. Basically, (this taken from the Acid manual), you hold Alt while dragging an event to move the position of the media within the event.

The contents of the event shift, but the event will not move. So you can see that you'd be able to quickly change where the beat falls for a particular event on the timeline. HTH.
