Subject:Acid says track ALREADY EXITS - but it doesn't

If I'm recording and I have a ton of tracks, sometimes I'll try to record a track but ACID will say: "THIS TRACK ALREADY EXISTS." eventho it doesn't.

When I click to re-name the track, ACID crashes.

Could it be that I'm out of RAM or something? -- (I have 192 MGs of RAM on a 731 MHz Pentium II)

Could be a video issue. Have you tried reducing/turning off video acceleration?

This exact thing happens to me too sometimes

What is video acceleration and how do I turn the thing off?!

Right-click a blank area on your Desktop, select "Properties," then the "Settings" tab. Click the "Advanced" button, then click the "Troubleshoot" tab. Adjust settings as desired.

Remember that you'll have to restart your system each time.

You might also want to try updated drivers for video and/or audio if possible.

The error message you are getting is stating that the filename you have selected in the record dialog already exists in the specified folder on your hard drive. It does not mean that a track with that name already exists in your project.

What is the filename that it is trying to use?
(listed in the Record window in ACID)

If you check in the box below the filename, it will show you the folder you are recording to on your hard drive. If you browse to this folder (in Windows Explorer) does the file already exist? Is that drive full?

Please let me know,
Nate

Nate,

NOTHING exists with that particular name... I'll name a track <TITLE> <NUMBER> <DATE>, so it'll go something like: SongTitle.guit1.9.20.03, then the next one will be SongTitle.guit2.9.20.03, then SongTitleguit3.9.20.03.

I'm fine until I get to a certain point where ACID says "that files exists." The point is, NOT only doesn't it exist -- but I'LL CRASH no matter what I do at this point.

When I accidentally name a track the same as one already existing, I can simply re-name it and continue recording -- I don't CRASH.

Help! (this happens alot)

yes! I get the same thing

and my drive isn't anywhere near being full. I crash, then Acid has some of my stuff in a tempoary folder.

I'm up to date with all of everyting (XP, Acid build 408, etc). What can we do about this???

(PS. I never record in the defaulted MY DOCUMENTS folder, I choose somewhere new, but this shouldn'te a problem)

I'm still having problems trying to make this happen on any of my test machines. Can you give me real world examples of when/where this occurs?

Full recording path?
Full filename to record?
Free disk space?
Format you are recording in?
Are you doing one record after another, or has the project/app been closed or reopened in the meantime?

Any other info you can provide will be helpful as well.

Nate

(IF YOU'D LIKE, I CAN OPEN UP EVENT MANAGER AND GIVE YOU AN ERROR CODE NEXT TIME -- would this be helpful?)

***maybe my track names are too long...?
this crashing whether I open a NEW PROJECT or am going back to an old exisiting one.

I create a folder -- "NEW SONG" let's say. I record a track (a .WAV, as an AUDIO file, not midi) and have it saved, NOT in the DEFAULT My Documents, but somwhere else (usually D DRIVE, in a folder called MyAcidProjects --example: I'll record NEWEST.BLUES.SONG.C_Section.1w.Sep.19.03 in a folder path: D:\ACID_MY_PROJECTS\Newest.Blues_70BPM.9.19.03

I use MICROSOFT SOUND MAPPER as record device, 44,100 Hz, 16 BIT.

My 1st track is called "NewSong.Guitar1a.9.22.03." I record a second track: "NewSong.Guitar1b.9.22.03," and so on. This will work perfectly until I do it a number of times. THEN: I'll try to record a track called (for example): NewSong.Guitar1h.9.22.03." When I CLICK on the RED RECORD BUTTON, I get an error message saying "TRACK ALREADY EXISTS -- PLEASE RE-NAME TRACK." Then, no matter what I do I CRASH.

--Sometimes I won't name my tracks in any logical order -- ie, I'll record a track called "XSAWU2121," and the same crash thing happens.

--Sometimes this crash happens as soon as I try and record, but this is RARE. Usually, it has been after I've recorded one track after another (DOES THIS HAPPEN NATURALLY IF I RECORD DOZENS OF TRACKS, AM I RUNNING OUT OF RAM MEMORY???)

-I WAS HAVING A HORRIBLE time with Acid crashing alot, but this is the only trouble I have now that I've updated to the newest BUILD.

-- I'm running XP Professional, Intel Pentium III, 731 MHz, 192 MB RAM, Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum EX, PCI SLOT 3.

I have 16 GIGs free on my hard drive, which is 29.2 GBs in total.

My track titles are fairly long. Could this be the problem? I am looking at tracks I recorded (with no trouble, incidentally) that are 40 digits long.

Am I up-to-date with this version of ACID?

ACID 4.0e BUILD 408
4.0.0.408

Yes, you do have the latest update for ACID Pro 4.0.

I'm still trying to reproduce this problem.

Under XP Pro I create the folder: D:\ACID_MY_PROJECTS\NewestBlues_70BPM.9.19.03\ and recorded "NewSong.Guitar1a.9.22.03" through "NewSong.Guitar1z.9.22.03"
Then I recorded another 26 while switching between different sound cards. No problems. After recording 52 tracks of audio, ACID is still only using about 60MB of RAM and has given me no errors. It pauses for a half second or so before it starts recording each time, but that can be expected when buffering 52 beatmapped tracks of audio.

I will try this on a machine closer in cpu/ram to yours in just a moment.

Are you recording beatmapped tracks or one shots?
Is the "Make new track follow project tempo" checkbox in the Record dialog ticked?
Are your drives NTFS or FAT32?
Are any of these drives external (USB/1394)? SCSI?
731MHz? Do you overclock or is your machine actually a 733 and 731 is just what XP reports to you?
What is running in the background? Antivirus software?
Please check the Process tab in your Task Manager to see what's running that might not show up in the clock tray.
Have you changed many of ACID's preferences from the default?
Not that you shouldn't, of course, I'm just trying to consider all possible influences.

I'm sending you an email right now with instructions on finding the Dr. Watson crash log after this occurs. Please respond to it with the crash log attached.
