Hey everybody,

Let's stay on topic (Vegas - video) in the forum. Please be courteous to each other. We don't need to use these forums to discuss other forum members and talk about who is right or wrong. It's pointless and only causes more problems. Please use the "Ignore this User" function if you feel inclined to do so. Now, anybody got a Vegas question? <g>

Too late Ted. I'm not going to stick around and be attacked all over something stupid as "duh" . The sad fact is lately the forum has had too many whiners and bitchers and has been going down hill with more and more bitchy postings. You could have and should have done something about the noise level long ago. You didn't and now you've lost the forum's most proflic poster.

I have and still will enjoy using Vegas. As far as me trying to help in the forum, a few people blew that in what they said today. I have my limits. Thick skin or not I won't take that kind of abuse and you just killing a couple threads doesn't make it all better. I'm deeply hurt.

Why, see updated site below.

Luckily there is still a great community here with many experienced users of Vegas that are willing to help out the not so great users! Now let's all get back to business :)

I was about to suggest that before saying goodbye to BB, all forum visitors should take note of BillyBoy's web site which contained much valuable information and tutorials. To my amazement, he has just deleted the entire content of his web site containing all that information. So don't bother.

There are many ways to react to that kind of withdrawal of help, but everyone: Don't blame SoFo for reacting "late" to the debate. BillyBoy contributed much valuable information if you filtered out the crankiness. I would far prefer a forum where the moderator gives great latitude to discussions, rather than one in which any hint of criticism of a product is squelched.

All that being said, I totally agree with Jsnkc: Lots of highly qualified people are on this net, a number of them professionals in the field. Keep posting.

>It's pointless and only causes more problems.<

Ted, I am glad to see some official presence here, however I would have to disagree.

Although it is virtual, this IS a real society here and occasionally the processes on which the society functions need to be addressed by its members. By and large, some very rational, mature, and sincere thoughts were expressed, and in the end, I think this community will be better off and can be proud to have worked through this "intervention".

I sincerely hope that a new, improved, BB will resurface in the near future, and as you say, we all treat each other with respect.

In the spirit of the request, how about a way to have VidCap open without loading the last capture project? Can't find a prefs setting for this.
BB, you'll find there are other Vegas forums around that might fit your "style" better.

It has been my experience in other forums related to videography that they are often permeated by "know-it-alls" who believe that the purpose of that particular forum is to further what they perceive to be their vast expertise. Any "newbies" who post questions similar to the ones many of these pseudo-experts posted when they first started are met with a condescending pompous attitude. Those unhelpful posters can ruin a forum.

If someone is going to answer a poster's question with statements such as "go read the manual" or the poster has to qualify the post by first indicating that.... "I have read the entire manual (the downloaded .pdf version cover to cover) and have worked through all of the tutorials twice, but I am still confused" before they can post without being attacked the forum isn't worth a pound of dung. That sort of poster chased me away from other forums even though I wasn't the victim of the attacks. It's just that I didn't want to participate in the forum along side pompous as**s. Also, spelling errors or typographic errors are little reason to assume that a poster is "stupid". It's all a matter of effective communication and a willingness to help others that should be important.

Moreover, forum rules universally state that direct attacks on other posters violate forum rules. I haven't seen a single forum where that wasn't the case. What I liked about this forum was that there were very few of these pompous as**s
on the forum. Let's keep it that way please.

I just visited Billyboy's web page and it is still up (as of 9/15/03, 9:00 PM). He really does have some good information there:

I don't post very often, but I check the forum every day in an effort to learn more about Vegas.

I personally have not been offended by Billy Boy's postings and most of the time he gives very good answers, sometimes laced with some sarcasm. I have found that his web site is very helpful with its tutorials and I have been working through some of them.

My take is, that I hope Billy Boy doesn't cease to share his knowledge with us and that folks will learn to read through his cranky ways and get to the good stuff. Now back to editing.

So just becasue someone has knowledge in a paticular subject we should just put up with whatever he says. Don't think so, common courtesy should be observed by all (except Zippy :)

how about a way to have VidCap open without loading the last capture project?

To try and answer this, I don't know if there is a preferences setting for this one, but what I usually do is just open up the capture App, then select File -> New and that clears out the media pool and starts me with a fresh bin.

Perhaps he's changed his mind?

Earlier all the tutorials were down and the homepage had an expanded version of his post above explaining why he was taking them down and why he was leaving here.

Perhaps he'll come back here after a while too. I think his health issues are affecting him. I know that when I have have had health issues I can get pretty sour. He obviously enjoys being here. So maybe they will be a return, perhaps some attitude adjustments and bygones being bygone. Like you say, he does have good information.

I think he should change his user name to BillyBoy;) though. A few smiliies here and there and it would have never reached this point.

Billy, if you read this, get well.

See Jsnkc knows his way around a smiliie ;)

Yes, I changed my mind about the web site after I was flooded with email requests to put it back up, so I did. I realizie I was punishing everyone instead of the few which isn't fair. So the web site is back up, but may move soon since I'm not happy with the limits Wide Open West puts on these little throw away sites you get for just having them as a ISP.

As far as my decission to not post here at lease for now that stands. It has become painfully obvious some here get a wide slack in not only what they say but in what they can post, even blatant advertisments for what they're trying to sell.

I on the hand I get dumped on for saying duh. I'm not going to get treated as some ugly duckling everytime some newibie gets its feather ruffled. I am not going to get lectured by somebody that thinks he's superior. And I'm not going to be abused by anybody in the forum. The funny thing is I helped more newbies than anybody. I'm proud of that as I should be.
