hi guys, i use acid mainly for real guitar demos, and my recent project has some problems. The project stutters when i play it, so i'm thinking if i'd used too much effects in the tracks? 1) how do i export("save as") each individual file with the assigned fx so that it actually speeds up my project? (so that it doesn't need to run real time fx processing on almost ALL the tracks). 2) Also, does anyone know how to adjust the buffer settings etc to speed up acid? 3) i'm using a SB Audigy platinum card, is there any driver or setting to maximise its potential? i'm also looking for friends with similar interests in real demo production in acid(not loop based techno stuff) to reply me. thanks! |

i believe you have :) i do it all the time as well. i think most plugin effects are processor-dependant. 1- mute all tracks except the one you want saved, and go to file->render as 2- and 3- don't know |

1) If you want to apply the FX to the track but still want to work with the project, bounce down by soloing the track, set the Loop Region over the area you want to bounce and use CTRL+M with the "render loop region only" option. Note the length of the track will determine what the newly-rendered track will become. Anything 30 seconds or less (by default) will become a Loop, for example. 2) Try going to Options>Preferences on the menu bar, then the Audio tab. If you're using the WDM driver model, you can adjust playback buffering here. If using the ASIO model, click the Advanced button, and then the Configure button, which should launch your soundcard's utility to adjust buffering. 3) Not sure here, as I don't use an Audigy myself, but the advice mentioned above should help out. uhm you should select the tracks and then use the "render to new track" function ... then delete the original tracks that way it frees up memory, but you dont have to save and load the new tracks to see them in your project by the way .. i believe the stuttering you're describing is NOT a "memory" problem, it mainly occurs because your cpu is too slow ! ...which does not mean that the methods mentioned here wont help... but you wont solve the problem by buying more memory! you'll need a faster processor that can handle all the plug-in fx in real time.... hope this helps p.s. uhm just read over md's post ... maybe ctrl + m is the same as render to new track :) |

fx are "processor dependant" BUT they are also reosurce dependant! (meaning the overall resources available to your system at any given time. if you look in the bottom right of your task bar, (where your time and date is) if there is a lot of things open, it will choke your system down. close EVERYTIHNG not essential to toy uo while using acid. everything in the bottom right of your screen is everything windows is "managing" even if they are not open programs. a VERY easy solution, actually 2 easy solutions...1. go to your "msconfig" utility (start, run, type in "msconfig" and uncheck EVERYTHING that does not need to run at startup) **youll need to restart** 2. DEFRAG OFTEN!!!!!!!! at least once a day. this helps A LOT!!! 3. this one costs money...but its cheap....buy a second hard drive. put JUST audio programs on this drive...it frees up your operating system trying to manage it and it makes your life A LOT LESS FRUSTRATING. 4. a good operating system is important too. if you are serious with audio, i would use nothing but win xp or xp pro (or above) DO NOT USE win. ME or 98. im not a big fan of either of those for audio. ESPECIALLY ME!!!! ME is WAAAAY too resource hungry!!!!! hope this helps! --marc |

To add, I forgot to mention that ACID was not meant to be a multitrack in the truest sense, so how many disk-based tracks (tracks that playback from your hard drive rather than being loaded into RAM as Loops are) you get away with will depend upon the ability of your system.
