I am a new user trying to record audio into SoundForge Studio (win 2000). I have tried feeding a one volt p-t-p, 1 kHz test signal in via the line input on my Sound Blaster card. The signal comes through loud in the speakers with vol about one third up. When I hit "Record" the Record sign flashes OK. When I stop, the size of the recorded waveform is only about 2mm high and there is no sound from the speakers when I hit "play". I have also fed analog audio (derived from a miniDV tape in a DSR-30 VCR) with similar unusable results What am I doing wrong? How do I know what "input format" to choose - can't find anything in the manual on this. |

Most likely it's an input choice issue with your sound card. The card is monitoring the line input, but it's not set to record from this input. In the volume control panel click Options / Properties / Record. You'll now see a different set of volume controls which are used for recording instead of playback/monitoring. Select Line in and set the volume here. |

In addition to what Chien said, check the record/playback settings in SF: Options/Preferences/Wave |

OK, I increased the volume like Chien said and the audio came up but it is horribly distorted and the waveform picture is not a "waveform" but a sort of "digital like" sequence of pulses. The wave settings look OK to me |
