Hello :) Wonder if anyone can help with a problem Im experiancing in soundforge6.e ? Im trying to convert a stereo sample into mono but when trying to do this instead of getting a even mono preview I only get sound coming from the left side ? The file Im converting has an even stereo sound so I would imagine once converted the sound should be central...... Thankyou :) |

You can use the Channel Convert tool located under the PROCESS menu to do this, or I usually prefer to just goto: File>Properties>FORMAT then check MONO and hit OK. This will bring up a pop up menu asking you to use the left channel only, right channel only, or Mix channels. There's some general presets for mixing the channels within the Channel convert menu, and it also allows you to adust the mixing levels so you don't clip the levels when mixing. |

Hi thanks for the quick reply :) Just to recap,I created a bass loop using Vstation @24 bit in acid I'm then transferring this to SF The loop is audio and visually balanced in SF until I try and convert to mono at which point I only get audio from the left channel.. Could I have clicked something in options by mistake? Is there a way of reverting back to default settings if I have? Help much appreciated :) |

Do other mono files play just the left channel? If so, this an issue with your playback chain. (sound card settings, speaker, mixer, ect.) I believe there is a way to go back to the default Options/Preferences settings, however I don't remember.. Anyone else? |

Sound Forge attempts to open the sound card with a mono format and send it mono data. Some drivers do not automatically pipe it to both sides. J. |

Hi, We seem to be experiencing the same problem. I'm really starting to think there is a bug in SF6.0e on WinXP. I did not have this problem using the same card and same version of SF on 98se. |

I'm hoping someone from SF will chime in to help us out. I really do think it must ne a bug since we're both having the same problem, and I've done extensive testing. |

I've tried to repro the problem you are experiencing. I tried it on a system with WinXP, 24bit .wav file, tried Sound Forge v6.0d, and then v6.0e and could not repro the problem. I tried it on another system with Win2k and 24bit files with v6.0e. It plays out both speakers, no problem in all instances. The only thing that would tend to be different between your systems and mine is the sound cards. I would expect a problem with your sound card's driver like Sonic suggested. |

Hi, I'm still having this problem after re-nstalling the latest drivers for my Dalota card. Does anyone else have a Dakota card they could test 24-bit mono files on using SF 6.0e? Thanks! dogdrum |

FYI: I discovered that unselecting "Try to Open 24 bit" in the Preferences solves the problem. I don't know why this would make a difference, but it does. -Dogdrum |

As I suspected earlier, your driver isn't handling 24-bit mono correctly. That pref automatically knocks playback down to 16-bit. |
