veg file question - image focus inside a moving box?

This is regarding the veg file wed test3, by stealthfulblkcat at www.sundancemediagroup.com

How is this supposed to work? I've been unable to figure it out. The download sample doesn't look at all like the veg file. It's supposed to use 4 lines in png format two vertical and two horizontal then two pictures. The extra media is not included. (I counted 25 missing items in the media bin after loading the veg file into Vegas, but that may include extra stuff.)

I'd like to try and recreate the animation-style effect. I created two png files each with transparent backgrounds, one with a vertical line and the other horizontal. The first eight tracks are set up in pairs for the two horizontal lines and two vertical lines. Track nine is the for the media images, I suppose. (stealthfulblkcat has wed test.avi assigned to track nine.)

A moving ‘box’ or square that is created by the crossed lines overlies the resulting image. A focal point is created inside the box by having a gaussian blur applied to the area outside the box. The images remain in focus wherever the box moves over the scene. This is a very cool effect...

1. How are the track pairs supposed to work with the compositing parent child associations and also the mask generator (tracks 1 thru 8)?
2. Which media goes in track nine to achieve the final result?
3. Am I simply missing something?

If anyone's tried this or can get it to work, I'd appreciate your help!

Could anyone point me to a link or tutorial that will explain this technique better?

I wish I could help. Have you tried contacting the author of the veg?

kleb,

I can mail you a wmv file that is 211 kB. It shows an effect like what you are describing. If that is what you need, then I can send or maybe post somewhere the veg and the media.

Greetings, kleb,

I have emailed a mov file showing the effect, and the veg that made it. The only media you need you should have already if you have the Vegas samples. The media is powderskier.avi.

To completely duplicate the effect you saw in the sundance site file, you would need to create an overlay (using something like photoshop) for the "four lines" effect.

Good luck and regards,

Thanks Don! I received your attached files. A generated media color gradient mask worked better for me. It allows more control over the dimension/size of the rectangle. I know there's got to be a better way to animate the mask though. I used keyframes, but if Vegas had video painting tools I could have built an animated mask to follow the panned media. Maybe Boris or other plug-in has this feature?
