Subject:how to keep hot signals from clipping

ok- I have some heavily processed loops that just sound great but they keep clipping my master output signal - I have tried volume envelopes but that just kills the feel of the track- any good way to get a strong output without clipping- my usual eq & compression tricks don't seem to be working either- these are some ambient keyboard sounds that i'm working with & have alot of delay & reverb-

"my usual eq & compression tricks don't seem to be working either"

Can't give you any direct help... I'm surprised compression doesn't help.
However, if you list exactly what you have tried (compression settings and such), maybe others "more in the know" than I could help you with alternatives.
Also, how much is it clipping?

not a whole lot -just peaks around 0.1 to 0.4 & it sounds great thru the monitors - do you have some good compression settings that work in this case & which compressor would you most likely use? I seem to get really good mileage from the track compressor - but it doesn't seem to be working this time

Are you adding the compression to the master, or only to the track that's making your master clip?

I just opened an 8pack, cranked up the volume on a track so I had the master clipping. Then I added a track compressor (soft limiter) to the master and no more clipping.
IMOWDMAWLSIOAH* you keep the feel of the song by adding the compression to the master versus adding it to the offending track. If you want that particular track to stand out from the rest, adding compression to just that track will take away some of it's impact...no?

Have you considered turning down the level on all tracks? This way you can avoid clipping without changing the mix or the feeling of the tracks at all.
