Subject:Can't Pan Quite Right in Stereo Track

I CAN pan in a stereo track, but this is what happens -- I have an mic on HARD LEFT for ambient room sound, and an electric guitar direct HARD RIGHT. They play back properly (ie, ambient 100% LEFT, Elec. guitar 100% RIGHT). But -- from within ACID -- when I insert pan points and pan hard Right, yes: I get only the right speaker, but THE AMBIENT LEFT TRACK IS MIXED INTO THE RIGHT GUITAR TRACK! is there a way around this? I was hoping for purposes of mixing that I could fade out or delete parts of the left track by panning to the right, or vice-versa. |

You need to split the stereo track into 2 mono tracks (Sound Forge can do this) and then you will have the mix control you are looking for. HTH, drbam |

For the ambient track on the left, did you ensure that whatever you're using (e.g., any hardware and software mixers) is panned 100% left? If it's not, it could end up bleeding into the right channel. What are you using for connections? Hardware? HTH, Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |

Are you using ACID 4.0? Try changing panning models. Change the multi-purpose slider to Pan, then right-click it for your options. For full info, go to Help/Contents and Index. Then Using ACID/Track Editing/Audio Track Controls/Pan a Track/Choosing a Panning Type HTH, Joel |

Okay, I can RIGHT-click on PAN, and eventually come up with a suitable mix of my left and right channels. ***NEW QUESTION: Is there any way to get this new mix of RIGHT & LEFT into a NEW TRACK? ...Now, in order to get the right mix of LEFT & RIGHT, I have my left channel much louder than the right. (The right's barely on at all.) PROBLEM: in order to create this mix, most of the volume is coming out of one speaker. ...Do I render this somewhere to get another track (with equal volumes left & right?) (It sounds like I should be able to do this simply with my pan choices, judging from ACID's HELP menu, but I can't and I've tried every possible pan setting combination.) --(Thanks to everybody for all this help!) |

It sounds like the easiest way to do this is to open your recording in Sound Forge or Sound Forge Studio, and just select each channel, and copy it into a new mono file and save to a new file. It would be a little convoluted to do this in ACID, but in case you don't have Sound Forge yet, here's how... To do that all within ACID, I'd crank the pan (using a balance model) all the way to the left, (and check your levels), solo that track, then save to a mono file. Reopen in ACID, and it's separated from the other. HTH, Joel |
