Hello all, I get this strange problem both with Vegas 4.0 and Sound Forge 6.0. In a nutshell: when I save a PCM sample as a Microsoft ADPCM sample, and re-open it in Sound Forge, there is a bit of garbage in the end of the sample. It looks as if someone took the first 5% of the sample, and inserted it to the end of the sample. This happens both when A) I save the sample from Sound Forge 6.0 using one of the templates (which were originally created with Vegas), and B) when I Render a Vegas 4.0 project into a MS ADPCM WAV. However, if I open the very same sample into any older version of Sound Forge, or any other program, the "bonus end segment" is not there. It only seems to appear when the file is opened into SF6 / V4. What's going on? Has anyone else run into this? |

Make sure the "Ignore FACT chunk" pref is turned off. I think it may be an internal pref in Vegas 4 but it is a General pref in Sound Forge 6. The default is for this to be enabled. This is a tag in the file that indicates the exact number of audio samples in the file. There are some audio programs available that do not set this tag properly, if you try to load such files they are either truncated or have zero length. We set the default in our apps to ignore it (i.e., let the decompressor to determine the length). Certain formats such as MS ADPCM do not properly report the exact length, so you can end up with a little garbage at the very end. |

Thanks for the tip. It just turned out this problem is something only I am getting. We tested SF6 and V4 in a colleague's machinem and the problem wasn't there. I'm using Windows 2000, a pretty "deteriorated" as that (very long time since it was installed), so something has probably gone funny inside. It's giving me other strange problems in SF6 as well (messed-up parameters in certain plugins) - which I also suspect nobody else is getting. So reporting them here probably just confuses and frustrates everyone. Sorry. O:) I suspect it has something to do with the fact the Pace Interlok protection (Waves plugins) and F-Secure Anti-Virus don't quite like each other. This conflict has probably messed something up permanently and irreparably, because re-installing any of the mentioned software does not fix the problem. |

(As a side note, yes, I have also tried updating the Pace Interlok drivers. Didn't help.) |
