My guess, and it's just a guess, is that this is the Sonic Foundry DLS softsynth. Try searching the knowledgebase to see if you can find any info on the error you're getting. And you might need to try reinstalling Acid. Sometimes things get corrupted.

If it's not SoFo's synth, then it might be an oddball VSTi plugin you've installed that's conflicting with things. But my guess would be it's the former.

This is the ACID DLS softsynth. It _must_ be available for ACID to function properly. While ACID will run with out it, you will experiance problems if you work with MIDI in any way in ACID.

Please answer this questions:
What is the exact error message are you getting?
What version of DirectX do you have installed on your system?
What Version of Windows are you running?

Hi,

I've search in the way indicated by dkistner and what I found is that ACID has a DLS Softsynth and it's seems that Microsoft has one and some hardware products should have some, like creative cards for example ! so I Think there may be a conflict...

The exact error message I Have is "an error occurred during the current operation
an exception has occurred"
I tried to put back sfdlssynth to it's folder when acid's already open, then I tried to open a wave file, then you have exactly the same error message and the details are :

If anything, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling ACID?

Be sure nothing else is running in the background when you run ACID. (Close anything down not related to music making in the Systray if possible.) Also be sure nothing has been launched before running ACID beforehand.

Might want to also check that no TSR's are running and ensure that non-TSR's have not launched when you system starts.

Try reducing or turning off video acceleration as well.

You can't put back the sfdlssynth.dll while ACID is running. It does nothing at all since ACID looks for this dll ONLY at startup.

I would suggest completely uninstalling ACID and reinstalling from scratch.

Hi,

I'm using a french version of W2K (I'm French)

I have tried the latest service pack for windows 2000 (sp4), and the latest directX (9.0b 4.09.0000.0902) version and I still have the same problem.... (i have uninstalled Acid before to launch sp4 and the directx upgrade)

I've made a dxdiag diagnostic and maybe have I found something interesting :

Hi,

well, I found the solution, there were not many solutions :
re-install Windows
re-install DirectX 9.0
re-install Drivers
re-install applications

A little bit long and boring, but now it works !
