What model OHCI IEEE-1394 Unibrain?

Hi,

I wanted to know what model of the Unibrain came with VideoFactory Deluxe 2.0. I have read somewhere that it is better to get a Fireware Card based on the TI chip and not the Via chipset. I just purchased a card from Best Buy only to find out that the VIA chipset was used. (SIIG did not indicate this on the outside of the box anywhere)

I was hoping to buy the same model Unibrain that came with the Deluxe 2.0 editions but I can not find out which model. Any help would be apprecited.

Thanks.

Although the common wisdom is to find a TI chipset, I have used the VIA firewires with no problems.

You don't have to buy an expensive card to get a TI chip. You can find them for around $20 US.

My Siig card works great. I got it at CompUSA for half the price than Best Buy with the cable included.
(I think I paid $40 for the card and the cable).

What are the model numbers of these cards everyone is talking about? I know that the SIIG card now at Best Buy contains the Via chipset because I ran a search on the SIIG web-page. Are you saying this SIIG card with the VIA chipset is working fine?

Does anyone know what the model numbers were for the original Unibrain IEEE-1394 card and then Pryo's that were included with VideoFactory Deluxe 2.0?

I'm not sure what the model number my SIIG card is (I don't have the box). Under 'My Properties'...it is called "VIA OHCI Complient IEEE 1394 Host Controller".

Yes, it has always worked fine. I have not heard of the Unibrain card.

Hope that helps some!

Thanks. I'll have to check it out. I also heard the Sonic Foundry went with the Pyro brand after they used Unibrain.
