Subject:Backward "Masking"?

Will Sound Forge allow me to re-record recorded material "backward"? Not as in actually *masking* audio, ala embedding subliminal messages (heh)- but rather, along the line of some of Radiohead's work on Kid-A and Amnesiac. I suspect that there would be a *method* for doing this, but it would not be an actual feature. How would I be able to do this? And would it be possible to do with the demo version of SF 6.0? I'm hoping to implement some backward vocals into something I'm working on in Acid. Please forgive my lack of knowledge when it comes to Sound Forge, but I wasn't able to dig up anything via the forum search, and I don't know where I'd find an adobe version of the manual. Thanks! |

Thanks alot, Mr. Franz! And I couldn't find a link to that manual, anywhere. ;P (Edit: Uh- meaning that I couldn't locate it *before*hand. Not that your link didn't work. Thanks again!) |

Not to sound too pedantic, and i'm glad you came here for help and that Red was able to answer your question ... but ... How long does it take to try pulling down the various menus and see what options are available? Please understand i'm not knocking you for asking. I'm just a little surprised at the number of times questions like this are asked when it's easy to see the "Reverse" item under the Process menu. |

I can AMEN that Chein...but I also realize it may be a matter of..'personal style' (is that a politically correct way of putting it ? :-) Some people are menu people, some are manual people, some are intuitive, some are lost. I myself am not a heavy manual person. I will go there if I'm stumped or have a problem, but when I get new gear I like to jump in and get my feet wet.. trying stuff and seeing..what menues are there and what these buttons do. My best freind will sit are read the manual for 3 days before even opening the box. Not to defend or attack anyone... there's a thin line between personal style/preference/aptitude and laziness. :-) |

Actually, at first glance, I couldn't find the manual here on the SF site. As for taking a look around the actual program, I thought I'd ask here *before* doing so, so that I wouldn't be wasting my time searching for a feature that may not have existed. However, I *did* search the forum first, as well as browsing the program's help index. It just never occurred to me to search for "reverse" in addition to "backward". I also looked through the Sound Forge FAQs/tutorials on the site. Firstly, I take absolutely no offense. But I'm nowhere *near* being a software guru. So, when I have even a simple question that I cannot answer for myself, it only makes sense for me to come to an open support forum, does it not? After all, that's what it's here for. I don't think I'm putting anyone out by adding one more question to the list- and believe me, I'm quite grateful for the assistance. On the other hand, I understand how it can be rather unnerving to find basic questions in forums/communities where you *are* knowledgeable. Though I certainly don't hold it against anyone. Because I'm a stranger in your territory- I come here respecting your superior knowledge. Just as I respect a stranger who enters *my* realm of expertise/knowledge. So, I completely understand. But I'm rather surprised that it's something that isn't expected, and, ultimately, accepted as something that just comes with the territory. |
