Subject:Cutting up drum tracks & other loops

I've been doing a fair job of cutting sections out of loops & using them in conjunction with other loops' sections & creating new loops - this works great for basslines- I have been trying to use the chopper to cut up drum loops & while I can do rolls & stutter effects, I would like to chop up drum loops into small events, change their individual pitches, etc. & kinda create new loops - I am missing something obviously & just not asking help the right question of the help window- Any suggestions as to how to do this in Acid?

Cut up the drum tracks as you see fit with the Chopper, then solo the drum track and set the Loop Region over the creatively mangled set of events you made and use CTRL+M with the "render loop region only" option enabled. (Be sure to set the newly rendered track's volume to 0.0 dB if you want it to match the volume of your original. Any added track will have its volume set according to the Preview slider in the Mixer.)

while I get where you are coming from the chopper doesn't seem to be allowing me to chop anything other than grid regions. for example I can't seem to chop an individual snare hit if it is not at the beginning of the grid & I can't seem to move slices (individual "hits" or events) around at will except at the beginning or end of a grid.

Did you zoom in at all? You should be able to get the section you want if you zoom in enough. Even if it doesn't seem lined up the way you want, if you zoom in you should be able to pick out the exact part you want.
Before zooming, locate the snare hit you want, then place the cursor at roughly the beginning of the hit. Now it's just a matter of clicking on the little + sign at the lower right corner of the Chopper window. The window will zoom in where the cursor is. From there you fine tune your selection.

Sorry if this wasn't what you were referring to...and sorry for using the term ZOOM so often. :)

actually, I was just doing that a few minutes ago & totally see what you mean - I suppose with that idea in mind I could chop that hit to a new track & then how can I paste it anywhere I want on the event board without regard to beginning or end of a grid line?

If selecting is a problem with the Chopper, you can either toggle snapping (using F8) or hold down SHIFT and make a selection to temporarily disable snapping.
