Have you installed anything new or otherwise changed your system configuration?

I think it happened after I installed the sony dvd burner. But Im not sure any drivers even got installed. The Sony DRX 510UL....

Its an external firewire /USB drive. All I remember installing was the burning software...but maybe Windows detected and instaleed something else. I have since been getting the error with no burner plugged in.

Try disconnecting the burner and see if that fixes it. Then try uninstalling the burning software that you installed with the drive. Better?

Either way, what was the specific software that got installed?

Veritas Record Now is the burning software

Ill see what I can do...kind of odd that installing burning software for the top of the line windows based dvd burner should cause an error......

It's a Sony . . . definately top-of-the-line. :)

It doesn't surprise me that Veritas is involved. We've had several reports of their software breaking ours. It's an issue that we are attempting to deal with.

Do you have DirectCD as well as RecordNow? I've heard that the two do not work and play well with each other.

DirectCD comes with Roxio EZ. RecordNow usually comes with DVD burners. Try uninstalling one or the other of them.

Well, you were right....I remove Veritas and the problem is gone.

Whats a bummer though is that was great burning software, it enabled me to do DVD RW and overwrite file on DVDs.....Is there any other software for the sony that will let me do that?

Thanks

I'm not sure exactly what comes with the drive. But my guess is that there won't be something else to do the same thing.

I'm hoping we can figure out why they break our software. Perhaps you should contact their tech support and see if there are updates for their software. (just a suggestion)

Thanks for looking into this with us.
