I'm currently using CUBASE and Vegas on some projects.

Before we get started let's clarify some things:
CUBASE and VEGAS (not Sound Fourge) are multi track recorders for recording multiple tracks, editing, mixing down ect.

SOUND FORGE and WAVE LAB are basically sound and wav file editors used for editing single files and mastering. No multi trac recording on them.

You're kind of comparing apples to oranges here just a bit. Getting back...

I started using Cubase becasue I started with MIDI. I kind of fell into Sonic Foundry accidently, but love it for it's ease of use. Took me no time to jump into it.. as a matter of fact, I learned it WHILE I was doing a session. I love the pan and volume envelopes and the new Automated effcts envelopes.

CUbase has it's advantages.. the biggest being MIDI. The other being.. I think it has a btter engine. You can move an event, change marker lcations, and even move (drag) the current play cursor (say from measure 45 to measure 24 ) without skipping a beat or hearing any lag. That's great.. smooth. I really wish SF had that .

Cubase is more difficult to learn, but that's becasue it's pacted with some heavy features. Like being able to 'audition' an even by placing your cursur over it and right clicking. no need to hit play.

None the less, they both have their up and down I still enjoy working with httem both (if I I could just get the darn clicking and popping to stop.

I've only dabbled in Cool Edit. Not enough to comment on.

Hope this helps some..even though I talked about Vegas instead of Sound Forge :-)
