Hi everyone!
I have ACID PRO 4.0 and I have keyboard YAMAHA PSR-640 and I need to connect keyboard to my computer.
I am looking for MIDI Device with which I will be able to play on the keyboard and hear the sound on computer and also record it as a track in ACID PRO.

I found few devices on http://www.musician.com/, those devices were good for my computer and for keyboard - USB-MIDI, MIDI- In/Out, 5-PIN DIN's(I guess that's what they called), but they don't tell if I can record from keyboard on computer, so I am not sure what to buy...

If anyone can suggest anything I would really appriciate that!

Thx, Alex

To get the "sound" from your keyboard into the computer you have to connect the audio out of the keyboard to the line in of a soundcard. MIDI does not record sound, only data which defines a particular note.

But my problem is - I can't choose what kind of device I should buy, I need to record sound from keyboard as a track in ACID PRO, like that: in ACID pro in record function there you can choose if to record Audio or MIDI, MIDI - that's what I need, the only problem is what kind of device I need....

thx to vanblah for info :)

I hope I am understandig your question.... you need something to route the MIDI information into your PC right? If so, then I would suggest a MIDIMAN 2x2 interface. It's only around $60-$70 and I have one myself. I have no problems at all with it and it gets all of my MIDI data into acid with no problem. There is no need for plugging it via serial port because it comes with a USB plug for your PC. I hope this helps.

No, I am actually looking for device and I found what I need, but I am not sure if it goes with cables, or if I have to buy cables seperately!

I run a midi cable from my keyboard to my computer via the game port on my sound card and have no problems ( cost is about $20.00 at zZounds.com ). You need to run a midi cable either through your sound card or usb ( I haven't tried that yet ). Also because midi is strickly data and not sound you need to run and audio cable into your sound card as well ( that means you might be looking for another cable as well- that would be probably a 1/4 inch left and right to an 1/8 inch stereo plug that should fit in the back of your sound card). I have an older keyboard which will record midi data but I need to transfer it to audio format so I can edit it and so forth I think some of the newer keyboards might be able to get around this but I am not sure and I hope I am not confusing you more. I have been through that problem myself. I will take this question to the next level when I post my question here shortly.
