The Sony 7506 and AKG 240 sound quite different. To me the 7506 is a bit too "edgy" in the high mids. Depending on the musical content, they can easily sound distorted to me, although I use them a great deal, because like the NS 10 monitors (and the 240 headphones) they are a certain reference standard for popular music. The 240 seems more detailed in the high end. See if you can try a LOT of different models and choose which ever sounds and feels right for your type of music. HTH, drbam |

AKG 141 or 271. Damned comfortable. The Sony's are fabulous and I've used them a lot, but they can get uncomfortable. I know it seems somewhat odd to talk about comfort over sound, but dangit, I wear headphone 10 hours a day, 6 or 7 days a week, and I'd like to still feel my head! : ) |

Just got a pair of the ATH-M40fs cans and I love them. All you're going to hear is the music - no additives. I've been using em about a week now, and I'm thinking of a couple more pairs. They are pretty comfortable to wear as well and the ears rotate for one ear monitoring. My 2 cents. I did some research too and my conclusion was these, Sennheiser phones or the ever popular Sony phones mentioned above. I got them here for a good price: www.kraftmusic.com They're $69.95 - my total came to $74.73 with ground shipping. Good luck! Warren |

I have both the Sony MDR-7506 and AKG K240S. The Sonys are excellent for editing, as the hi-mid boost less to hear lots of detail. The bass is stunning - I can swear that I feel my trousers flapping ! And talk about going dangerously loud ... However they are tiresome for casual listening, especially over a long period. The K240S have a more spacious feel, and aren't so pronounced in the tiring hi-mid area. Small low-voltage devices like discmen may have trouble driving the K240S because of their low 55 Ohm impedence. My K141 (both normal and 'S') are nowhere near the previous two. I have some K270S which sound 'hollow' in comparison to the first two - I haven't heard the K271, but as they are the same new technology as the K240S, I would imagine they sound pretty good. geoff |
