If someone can help me, I will be forever grateful. I have a Yamaha S03 and for the life of me, I can not play back the voice that I originally wanted to record in Acid via MIDI. I can not tell whether the settings on my synth are wrong or if there is something else I need to do. All I know is that it is becoming quite frustrating to me at this point. If there is someone out there who recognizes the problem or knows how to fix it an d doesn't mind sending me step by step instructions to ensure this will work, I would really appreciate it. I am getting rathjer pissed about it right now seeing that I have tried everything I can. I don't know, maybe it's me and I am clueless. Regardless, at this point I need help and if you can help me out, please do so. Thanks in advance, X |

Are you trying to record the sounds off the S03 itself? If so, you do not want to record MIDI; you want to record digital audio instead. MIDI is just a set of instructions, whereas digital audio is actual audio from a source. I'm gathering the S03 has 1/4" outs or RCA outs? Use those and connect them to your soundcard/audio interface's line inputs. HTH, Iacobus |

yes I want to record the sounds. Since I posted my issue, I have been able to manage to record MIDI into acid, now the problem is being able to burn the track. I can burn whatever loops I used with Acid itself, but in regards to burning the recorded MIDI with it, I am shot to hell man..... See the main problem is that I can not play naturally like some muscians, therefore, I know I am going to have to use either Piano roll editor or the Step recording method to get my stuff quantized properly.... or are you saying I could do something else to get it done without killing myself going "nuckin' futs" over this MIDI stuff? Thanks in advance. X |

MIDI and digital audio are two very different monsters. Once you record digital audio, it's pretty much set in stone, unless you use something like Sound Forge to edit your digital audio. Ability to have rhythm is a big plus when recording digital audio. It's also wise to set the cursor a couple measure before where you intend to actually record, so as to be prepared for it. (You'd then bounce down only the part you want and discard the extraneous data.) If you want to record the S03's onboard sounds, you will definitely have to go the digital audio route. MIDI is a little more forgiving. You can quantize post recording or use step recording as you've noted, but other than that, there's really no other way at this moment. You are, however, free to route MIDI as you see fit to different soft synths if you want. HTH, Iacobus |
