What is the best way to get the highest quality mp3's? Should they be ripped as waves then converted or use a program that extracts & at the same time saves as an mp3? Also what encoder is in sound forge?

Whichever suites you - ones that rip and encode concurrently are still doing the wav thing (unavoidable) but hiding it. In veiw of that, the intermediate bits are not accessable, like normalisation, editing, if desired. If you want 'high quality' mp3s, you will probably be encoding at a higher rate (160kbps minimum).

SForge has a Fraunehofer(sp?)-licensed codec, I assume.
