I want to get a laptop to use with Acid - will probably also run reason & definitely Ableton/live in live situations- I Understand that Dells & Sony notebooks use a Yamaha soundcard & really work well - are there any specific model numbers by either manufacturer to look for? Any other suggestions on where to look- most computer store clerks/techs just look at me dumbfoundedly- Any ideas on good low/no latency interfaces for getting sound out of the notebook as well? |

I use a dell laptop some (Inspiron 2600) with a 1 gHz processor. I mainly use Acid 3.0 on the laptop. I have had no problems, but I don't think the soundcard will work that well in live situations. I also have a edirol UA-20 usb sound card. When I tried to use the laptop live I had to run the sound thru a direct box and lift the ground to remove a hum. When I compose on the laptop I use headphones. I believe echo makes a laptop soundcard that may solve the soundcard problem. |
