Subject:Acid Pro 4.0 Skips tremendously and stalls with FX tracks

I use Acid 4.0 and have a P4 1.7 ghz PC, 512 SDRAM, Ultra ATA hard drive, no background apps running and memory meter never goes in red, CPU proces is normal during slowdown. When I use Acid with 24-30 tracks with 3 or 4 FX tracks, the playing skips as soon as an FX loop starts, pressing pause and then play again fixes it for the next 10 secs and then it stalls and skips again. During this time I've watched my CPU and memory use and nothing goes red or above normal. Is this a program issue, I've tried all the diff sound driver options on the AUDIO tab and have increased buffer to 1 second which has helped. Can we increase the buffers more or play everything from RAM including effects ? What can I do ???? I've even tried diff FX plugins from Cakewalk, Sonic, Steinberg and others, all plugins skip when I have more than 2 FX tracks. Thanks anyone.... |

I used a Hercules XP Game Theater sound card with the most updated drivers. I've checked most of the forums and have tried all the tricks. Maybe I just have too many tracks ? When I use Cubase SX with similar tracks and FX, the playing is fine so I thought it may be a prgram/driver issue ? |

Anyone having stuttering troubles may want to check out a post of mine. Remember that ACID was not meant to be a true multitracker if that was your intent. How many disk-based tracks playback properly will most likely depend on your system config. Even then, you can only get away with so much. In addition, using real time FX can add some considerable CPU crunching in addition to the real time key and tempo stretching that ACID is already doing. Digital audio is very complex to begin with and compounds the situation. HTH, Iacobus |

I fixed my problem...My computer may have looked okey but it had a cheaper Seagate hard drive with lower RPM and cache. I re-formatted my system this week and added a seperate Western Digital 160 GB/7200 RPM/8 MB cache and now I can use as many tracks as I want with any of my audio apps. Nothing is freezing so far. I have only audio temp files and audio work on this drive. I left my applications and virus scan on the C drive. I haven't even made Cubase stall yet with 44 tracks on one of my songs. Wooo hooo..Thanks...I got the WD1600JBRTL drive from Best Buy...This sucker is flying now... |
