Im trying to chop up a sample cd into individual loops and although I know how to do this in theory, Auto region...Extract region etc... it just never seems to get the regions accurate. A minute long file with about 20 loops on, with small silent gaps in between, sounds straight forward and having spent an age adjusting the attack sensitivity etc etc it never gets it right...will get it right in some areas of the file, but not that accurate overall... any suggestions????

About all the help i can offer is that i usually adjust the regions manually after using the autoregion function. It finds the breaks for me, but needs some help getting them in exactly the right places.

Relying on Auto Region is, well, touchy. You can adjust the attack and release times, that should help. If every file is the same design, one tweaked preset might be able to automate the process quite nicely.
Your best bet is to do this manually. I found that using the Marker command (M) is actually easier and faster than auto-region. Less adjusting, you can covert straight to regions, and hey, you know it's accurate. Sure you have to listen to what you're cutting up, but this is sound editing!

Part of the problem can be the source material. If the tempo varies significantly that could cause a problem with the loop points.
I agree that manually is the only way to be sure.
I find that specifying loop lengths in seconds, or even samples, is often a quick way to get very accurate loops. Of course you can rely on your ear if this doesn't seem to work.
I find it usually is very accurate and precise to specify the loops this way.

Thanks for the help people but the solution in the end was easy.....download a small free program called Waveknife....you would not belief how simple and accurate this program is....perfect for doing the task of chopping breaks and loops into individual wav files....after messing around with Sound Forge for ages I just couldnt belief how simple it was with such a small and simple Program...sorry 'Sonic Foundry' but you people have got to try it!!!!!!!!
