Subject:Static with acid pro 4

I just downloaded the program and all I want to do is record myself. But whenever I select an instrumental on my computer and try to record, this loud static comes on. I can't record as a result. When I say something and play it, the static isn't there.

How do I stop the static?

What's your soundcard? Have you tried updating its drivers (if possible)?
