Time / date stamp script?

BrianStanding wrote on 7/9/2003, 3:09 PM
Here's a challenge: is it possible to come up with a script that would find the Date/Time stamp from the DV encoded info for an event on the timeline, put it into a text title and superimpose it on the video image?

Check out this thread for more info on the concept:

This currently cannot be done. The text cannot be modified via scripts.

Too bad. You could have a lot of fun with scriptable titles... maybe in the next version (or the version after that one...)

BTW, Edward check your e-mail.

Stay tuned! I agree that scripted titles would be great.

We've done some initial work on scriptable keyframe parameters for video effects, transitions, and generators (as is the case for text) . This will give scripts access to the text data, its position, color, size, etc.

Sounds GREAT.

While on the topic.

I imagine how easy all this things could be done if *.veg files were XML, like in upcoming Premiere Pro (sorry for mentioning it here).

I understand that everything: keyframes, param settings, titles is stored in veg file, except right now it looks like straight objects persisted in binary format (and hence the format changes every time new parameter added or changed in any plugin/effect).

I thought it would be easier from implementation standpoint.

Although, if you want to keep veg format closed/proprietary to avoid people tinkering with things outside of Vegas, then, of course, that's not a choice.

This is a very interesting topic. In fact, I'm working on improved XML
input and output sample scripts for the 4.0d release.

I don't think we're all that concerned with keeping the veg file
format closed except that opening it can constrain us in ways a closed
format wouldn't. I suppose there's a good chance we'd go with XML if
we were to start from scratch today but there are still some good
reasons to stick with a binary format such as floating point number
accuracy, binary data chunks, etc.

It also might be nice to have the ability to maintain your project data
in a relational database... a good way to support collaboration, etc.

Whether you do it with a script or not, access to the date/time information from within the title generator would be great. I've seen lots of threads on this over the last year, and I've often needed to put the "exact" time the scene was shot onto a title.
