I think it's great that SF has come up with another patch. Bravo. However, I for one believe that they should archive every old patch. I feel it is an insult to the customer not to do this. Eveything on my computer was dandy until I upgraded to 4c, and 4d. I have been unable to do any serious work since.

I am downloading 4e now, but it really sucks that I will have to uninstall and roll back to the orignal cd version again after haveing the best results with 4b.

If this patch works I will kiss some serious a$$. If it doesn't, I'll be pulling my hair out again.

Such a personal statement! Why is it an insult? An insult implies some kind of malicious intent. That is just not the case.

The reason we don't post all updates is to avoid confusion. If you contacted our support staff they will provide you a link to download 4.0b if you required it.

However, it will be considered to provide a link to archived updates.

Peter, I vote for having the earlier updates available, too. So as not to confuse people, perhaps you could just provide a "previous updates" or "update history" link on the download page for the current update that would take people to a page with a link to the release notes and download link for the different updates; or just put these links at the bottom of the current release page, in descending order.

I, too, have rolled back to 4.0b from c/d/e for now because b was working for me and I don't have what it takes right now to figure out how to tweak the updates to get them solid for me, because I'm in the middle of something that's getting done in 4.0b. But this does not mean I won't update later or that I don't appreciate the hard work that's gone into these updates.

This is not a scientific study (!) because I didn't spend a lot of time trying to get to the bottom of it. In short: I was crashing.

I did not uninstall first before reinstalling...should I have?

When I finish up what I'm working on right now, in a day or so, I'll reinstall 4.0e and see if I can get it to do what it was doing before. It may have been just a setting I needed to tweak...the update shouldn't have changed any of my Preferences settings, though, should it have? Should I check everything first there just to be sure it didn't?

Also, there shouldn't be any reason to have to reinstall the Echo Mia drivers post-update to 4.0e, should there? I didn't try that at the time, but I could.

If you updated 4.0d to 4.0e, it should not have changed any preferences but you could check just to be sure.

Also, if you always want to be sure, you could just install the 4.0e update clean (after you uninstall 4.0d). Of course, that means all your preferences will be reset and you'll have to keep your serial key handy to unlock ACID.

I've never had a problem with having to reinstall my soundcard's drivers when updating. (I'm using an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 and an M-Audio USB Duo.) I'm guessing the same would be true of the Mia.

Thanks, Iacobus. I think I will do a clean install of 4.0e when I do it. I went from b to e, so that might have been partly why I was crashing. I'll just have to be systematic about getting my Preferences set after that.

I've gotten where I keep text files of my serial numbers for everything in the same place I keep my software backups because it is such a pain to try to read them/type them in over and over each time. My computer glasses aren't ground for reading, so I have to keep switching back and forth...but that paper copy of my serial sure has saved me a few times!
