Subject:Original recorded too fast, need to slow down and lower pitch

Hi, I am relatively new to Sound Forge. I am converting old cassette tapes to digital files for work. At the end of one of the tapes the batteries must have been going low on the recorder as the recording sounds fast when played back. How would I go about slowing down the clip and/or making the pitch sound normal. If it makes a difference, we only have v. 4.5 here. Thanks. |

I think version 4.5 had Pitch Bend. Look under Effects / Pitch / Bend. You can use this to speed up or slow down a recording exactly like a pitch control on a tape deck. You can even set points along the way to alter the pitch from one point to the next in case the pitch varies throughout the song. If you can't find that in 4.5 please get back to us and we can come up with some other method that may work instead. |

Yes, it does have pitch bend. I'll try to fool with that. Thanks. By any chance can it be set to slow down the piece exponentially? |

Yes, version 4.5 has this tool. And Yes you can slow down or speed it up exponentially. That's if you can draw an exponential curve. It gives you an envelope, where you can add as many points that you want. You just need to adjust each point until the envelope looks like an exponential curve. |

Hi: As another alternative you could try going to Process-->Time Stretch and lengthen the actual time that it takes the clip to play. This will change the speed and pitch depending on how much additional time you add to the clip itself. This assumes that your version of Sound Forge has this feature available. Jim |
