This are a few of those dumb questions about panning, but I'm not terribly clear on it. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me with this. I work with mono waves in Acid, and I've been using the constant power panning type because I read somewhere in the manual that this is the best to use for mono waves. But I want to apply some Spectron magic to a few of the waves I'm using, which I will do in CE2K first (because of cpu intensity). I assume stereo output is what will be called for to preseve the treatment. So the questions I have are: Should I do the initial treatment to stereo panned center, then when I get it into Acid, shift the panning a little left or right as I want to? Which is the best panning type to use in Acid for a Spectron- or other-processed stereo wave? (I've downloaded 4.0e but haven't installed it yet so don't know what the new panning types are.) What happens to the stereo wave form when you re-pan something that was already panned (center or whatever)? Does everything just shift appropriately...as would happen with a mono wave...or is this going to screw up the stereo image? In other words, should I try to get the panning like I want it first in CE2K, or is it acceptable to start with a center-panned wave and then make adjustments in my Acid project? I mean, if I set up, say, a piano with the left hand slightly left of center and the right hand slightly right of center, could I then move the whole piano more to the left, as if moving the actual instrument over a bit on the stage, and still have it sound pretty faithful to what I intended? |

Were my questions really that utterly stupid? I'm holding off on a mix until I hear from somebody. Give me a link to more info or something. I've been striking out trying to find an Acid-specific answer. |

"What happens to the stereo wave form when you re-pan something that was already panned (center or whatever)? Does everything just shift appropriately" If you take a stereo piano wave with left hand panned @ 10% left and right @ 20%right, and pan the whole wave left @ 20%, you should have: left hand @ 30% left and right hand @ center. |

With spectral types of effects, I personally would render the processed track as a stereo wav file to preserve the full effect. This way you have more control over how you want to pan and mix it. Then again, I don't do my final mixing in Acid (I use Vegas), so I don't know if this would be a problem (it shouldn't be). ;-) HTH, drbam |

Oh, lovely. That's just what I hoped you'd say. Thanks, groovewerx and drbam...I needed that. |
